Texas rebuild

So i've established that i'm going to need a rebuild...bad coolant seals, our favorite.

There's no shops in AZ to do this. My mom tho, lives in Austin,TX which isn't too terribly far from RP in Garland. But, I also know they are pretty over-priced. Are there any other places in the Austin, San Antonio, DFW, Houston area that can do rebuilds, or better yet find me a better engine if possible? Or is RP my best bet no matter what?

Texas boyz, help me out on this one!

There are a few places....

San antonio - Alamo rotary (from what i understand, they do ok work, but i don't like the owner, he's a bit cocky.)

Marvel speed - Hear nothing but good about dan's work (have a friend with a rebuild from him) and fair priced. I'm not sure where they are located, but they are in the north texas area.

BDC - forum member, he's in the dallas area, does amazing port work and building.. Highly reccomend him. I'm sending my housings to him in a few weeks for a half bridge to be done.

I spoke with BDC and like what he has to offer, slightly less expensive than RP but not by much, , quality work is not cheap. he comes highly recommended.

Chris at RP is very good, he knows RX-7s inside and out, and as you say pricy, I chose them over BDC because they agreed to keep my car inside for the 3 weeks they had it and BDC was not able to do that, I am very pleased with the work they did, starts first time every time and idles perfect.

These are the only 2 guys I would trust with my car here in the DFW area, not that others are not just as good it is just "stay with what you know for sure" and I don't know enough about any of the other rebuilders in the area.

LoL, the fun part is the Mountain section doesn't have any moderators so no one will move this thread to the correct section!

I though RP quit working on 1st and 2nd gens unless you're a returning customer?

I think it's more on the lines of they only do work on them if it's for performance only. No regular matinence on them. That's what Chris Ott told me one time.

RP rebuilt my 2nd gen motor in Feb of this year, never was a customer before just called them up and made an appt.

If they don't want business from 1 and 2 gen cars someone needs to tell them that because they had more than a few of them in the shop.....

we can speculate all we want,,,just call and ask if you want them to do the work, second hand info is just that and means nothing

FYI MarvelSpeed is Rowlett, and is only a max. 15 min drive from RP. Closer to 10min.

Personally for 2nd gen stuff I'd go to Marvelspeed, but I've also heard good things about Gotham but I've never been there. Marvelspeed installed my exhaust for me, two great guys there.

I called Marvel, Alamo, and RP. RP was the most expensive, and i never got a call back from Marvel I'm gonna try again next time i have a chance. I'm gonna look into Gotham now that i've heard about them too.

RP gave me a quote and everything so i would assume that they are still working on 1st and 2nd gens, but prolly not for maintenence, like was said.

BDC i'll pm ya with some questions.

Getting an Engine Rebuilt in Arizona

89Vert,

There are shops in Arizona that do rebuilds.

Check out www.rxforyour7.com . The owner's name is Jay Evenson. He has been rebuilding and modifying rotary engines since 1971. Jay is in Tucson.

You can also check out www.yawpower.com . Yaw Power is in Phoenix.

Finally! Someone gives me a straight answer about rotary shops here. No one has told me anything at all yet about either of those, and i would really like to be able to avoid sending it to Texas.

So does anyone know anything about yaw power? They would be the most convenient option seeing as i'm in the phx area. Not that convenient is always best, i understand. But if they do quality work that'd be better than sending it off to TX with my mom.

They're great machinists, and they've got alot of gizmos and doohickeys, but they'll also try and sell you on about 5,000,000 different things you won't need.

Maybe no one posted about shops in Arizona because the title of your thread is "Texas rebuild". C'mon now.. don't criticize the responses you got when your thread was headed in the wrong direction to begin with.

Maybe a more appropriate title would be "need a rebuild... stuck in the desert".

Also the West forum section is where all the AZ people hang out. Maybe looking over there for info regarding AZ shops would be a great "proactive" thing for YOU to do rather than bitching about the responses you have gotten here.

Peace.

Hey wow, no need to be an ******* about it. You sure as hell live up to your name, killjoy...

I DID in fact talk to people in the west forum, as well as on azrx7.com, the rx7 forum specifically for arizona. Look for my user name there and you'll see the responses i got. As i stated in the beginning of the post, Texas was my best option because no one had told me about anything in AZ on the azrx7 forum, i figured if anyone would know they would, and no one was really sure. SO next time think a little bit before you speak and assume i didn't search and look for this stuff. We all know what assuming does....
