Super Street staff writer decides to "mess with Texas"

In the September issue of Super Street Magazine staff writer Roel Concepcion writes the following in his article

To add a little more insult to injury he took this picture for the article:

Then read Roel's response here: http://www.houston-imports.com/forum...7&page=1&pp=20

There are links to several other forums and information regarding the serious effort to let Super Street just what we think of them and their choice to allow their writer to make such unrealistic and unapologetic remarks regarding our proud state.

We didn't like Super (rice) Street before, now we have a real reason to hate them!

I saw that posted on FChat. And, just like I do whenever there's a gay pride parade in town, I ignored it.

Methinks this is what it looks like over at SuperGay:

LOL,

I figure there are more than a few web-jockeys that have nothing better to do that give this guy a hard time.

What's the big ******* deal? It's an old building.. It's boring... Not like visiting the Alamo is like Disneyland or anything. What's he supposed to say about going there? People need to chill out and not take articles they read in shitty magazines personally.

Just the title of this thread says it all. Texans believe that their **** doesn't stink. It's always been this way. It's just too perfect to see the "bad-***" state get sand in their vaginas when someone plublicy has something negative to say about their state.

Just imagine if I, as a Claifornian, whined everytime someone said we are a state of "*******" and hippies". Well guess what, this "******-hippie" thinks you Texans need to shut the **** up and grow a pair.

Here is why the first person got upset:

In the article itself it states that he was in Uvalde, Texas. Uvalde is not San Antonio. I agree that there isn’t much to do in Uvalde, so I hope he was confused with the two cities. However, I seriously can’t believe that anyone can claim San Antonio is so boring that you have to take a picture of your thumb pointing down in front of the Alamo and print it in a national selling magazine. It would have been better if Mr. Concepcion had defecated on the grounds rather then print his opinion. Why is it so offensive? Because I believe that the Alamo stands for the sacrifice people are willing to give for freedom. Because the Alamo is a historic landmark that Roel thinks is amusing to make fun of. Anyone from Texas can understand that. I guess someone not from here won’t understand. So I’m going to put it into simple terms that people everywhere can understand.

Would you go to the beach of Normandy where soldiers died and take a picture on the beach and say that the battle sucked? No.

Would you go to Oklahoma City and take a picture in front of where the Oklahoma City bombing happened and put a thumbs down in front of it just because in your opinion Oklahoma City was boring? No.

Would you go to the Vietnam wall and pick out a name and tell people across this great nation that they died for nothing? No.

Are you starting to understand why it’s offensive? I would hope so. Give respect where respect is due. People died there. At least have some respect for the dead.

If Mr. Concepcion found this city so boring then I’m sure he would have at least checked out some of the local shops here to see what this city has to offer the import world. Did anyone hear about Super Street going to one of the shops in San Antonio? If he was so bored then I’m sure he tried to get a hold of someone out here to at least find a decent strip club to go to. Hell I would have bought for him that night if anyone had told me someone from Super Street was in town. Hmm, now that I think about it, if Mr. Concepcion was so bored then I’m sure he went out of his way try to find out what there is to do in this town. Sadly if that were the case, he wouldn’t have submitted a picture that would offend a Texan. Even if the disrespect displayed in the article were towards any other city like Dallas, El Paso, Austin, Houston or even Laredo, I would still be writing this.

I do not want an apology from Mr. Concepcion. Hell I don’t even expect a response. Instead I have decided to never read Super Street again. Don’t get me wrong; the magazine has a lot of cool cars, and keeps me entertained while I’m taking a **** in the bathroom. It’s the lack of respect that has slipped through the cracks that has forever put me off. I’m sure losing one more reader won’t change anything for them. However I’m not the only one who has decided to end their subscription because of this offense.

Dorian E. Perez

PS: As for the Tim Duncan comment…well…Tim has enough money to buy Roel’s life 10 times over. So say what you want about the NBA champions of this year. They still have millions of dollars...and better cars.

Roel responded with this wisecracking response:

First, my reply to the jackass who wrote the following (previous) letter, who probably based his opinion from racist history books and mediocre movies. I say **** you to the Alamo because the people who defended that stupid site (I'm talking about Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, etc.) stood for slavery. They strongly fought the Mexicans because the Mexican gov't at the time became abolitionists, or anti-slavery. The Mexican gov't was in the process of enforcing this belief to the Texans, who made their living by agriculture and therefore needed slaves. Of course, the Texans wouldn't possibly allow their income to be taken so they fought back. This is one of the reasons why the battle came about, and why I wrote that piece in Super Street.

Note: Whatever you read in your history books are wrong. And don't ever believe what you see in the movies. So please do your homework before you say something really stupid: "

Yes indeed it was and people started using it...
-"private! You look like you can suck a golfball through a garden hose! Can you suck a golfball through a garden hose?"
-"sir, no sir!"
-"bullshit! I think you can suck a golfball through a garden hose!"
Basic training was the best part in FMJ, imo.

the defenders of the Alamo freed all of their slaves before the siege, in fact I do believe that one freed slave stayed behind to fight. if I remember correctly Travis was the only one that actualy had a slaves at the time. Crockett and Bowie had no use for slaves.

there are no major plantations in texas, in texas cattle is king. and you cant really use slaves to heard cattle, because they could escape with ease.

the battle for texas was about money, not slaves

the Alamo is the most holy ground in texas, and they let you know it when you go there, you can not wear a hat, and if you do anything disrespectful they will arrest you

It takes a hell of a lot bigger pair just to live here, asshat. All it takes to live in California is a gapped ******* and a wicked awesome fashion sense.

If I remember correctly: when Mexico opened Texas for settlement to US citizens, the settlers had to also abide to Mexcian laws. They did so openly. But later on some greedy settlers wanted to keep their land, change the laws, and be independant.

These greedys then started the initial fighting and the Mexicans relatiated as was there right by law. This started the rebellion that ended with Texas being taken over by the settlers.

Thus it really was another case of the greedy whites stealing property again in the Americas. As we did to the Philippines, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico later on..

I love my country but we do have bloody hands. Lets the country without sin cast the first stone!

Point is his views were disrespectful regardless of merit... they have no place in a car magazine.

Who gives a **** its some un educated idiot who still lives with his mom and thinks his crx is the ****. Only a tard could get away with writghing an article on a datsun 510 with out actually saying anything about the car proviing the editors really only let it go because they felt sorry for his handicap. I never liked your magazine, it is for ricers and 12 year old kids who grow up steeling airplane wings and putting them on there mommys civics. Grow the hell up and go get a real job because you sure as hell cant write well.
