Sevenstock 9 - October 28th 2006

Good news everyone Sevenstock 9 has a green light. Once again the So-Cal RX-Club will be hosting the internationally famous rotary roundup in Mazda's backyard. This year however things will be a little different. The show is moving down the road to the Mazda North American Operations Headquarters (located in Irvine, CA).

The event will be help October 28th 2006 and is expected to be the largest event yet!

With gas prices in their current state of inflation it is unlikely there will be a big caravan effort, so start booking to flights now. If you watch for specials from the airlines you could make the trip for less than the cost of that last speeding ticket you got!

So let the planning begin, see you there!

I know there are a few more 7 enthusiasts around in the southern NM and west TX region than usual. Is anyone interested in driving out to 7stock on I-10? I'm not ignoring the south TX people, but I assume that no one is nutty enough to pay $500+ for gas to go to 7stock.

The typical program is to leave Las Cruces, NM Thursday (we could leave pretty late in the day), stay in Phoenix that night, head to Irvine on Friday, stay Friday and Sat night, and head back home on Sun (straight through).

In total the trip is about 1600mi, and will run about $300 in gas (roughly $680 with meals, gas, and hotel assuming 1 person per car/hotel room). Of course that doesn't include the cost of getting you 7 reliable enough to make it.

I started a thread in the Sevenstock section, simply because there may be people from the South East that would want to meet up for a huge caravan.

I'm down for a caravan, gotta save me some cash to go, though!

It'd be nice to get a list of people that wouldn't mind sharing a hotel room, as well. Keep those costs down.

I will be out there, however, I am going the week before for NHRA in Pomona. Anyone going out there and wants to hook up, let me know.

If my car is running and broken in by then, then I'm planning on going. It also depends on work schedual.

I have had to change my $ estimate due to a major price increase at the Irvine Hilton. I was figuring about 90 per night, but now it looks like at a minimum 2 nights will run $260 (Net Direct & likely 7stock rate) to $308 (standard rate), both are with tax. The AZ guys usually stay in the Double Tree, which at current rates would run $240 with tax.

Overall, if you plan to attend the banquet and stay at the Hilton, the entire trip will run about $840 for one person driving from Las Cruces, NM or El Paso, TX.

Ignore the previous post, the SoCal guys really got the price at the Hilton down, $99.00 per night (+10 % tax).

Iv'e been wanting to go to Sevenstock for years now, and finaly this year i will be able, since im moving to Forth Worth in about 10 days. How are the roads from Forth Worth to CA? Im planing on driving my seven there. But it's kinda built for race tracks and do not like bumpy roads.

Can't speak for the roads from DFW but once we got to Los Cruces from Houston and headed west everything was pretty good.
Now its been probably (3) years since I did the Caravan so anything can change but these roads are not highly traveled, so they hold up well. Plus the lack of freezing temps probably helps.

I'm considering making the drive in my '90 Turbo Vert. When the time gets closer we should talk.

I believe there will be at least 3 cars heading off to 7stock from the L.C./El Paso area on Thurs the 26th around 5pm. The plan is to stay in Phoenix that night and head out with the AZ guys in the morning. I think everyone is as committed as anyone can be when planning to drive an RX-7 1600 mi.

Anyone else East of NM still planning on heading out on I-10?

Well, if something major happens and I can come up with the time/money to do it, then I am planning on going up I-10 through El Paso. Unfortunately, I just don't think its feasable this year. Luckily the quad state q will make a nice substitute.

Hey guys!

Looks like my car will be going to this event instead of the quad. (sorry local guys)

For anyone and everyone that is planning on going through Phoenix, I have a couple of houses out there that you all can crash at. I hope the neighborhood doesnt cause a frenzy over the noise and exhaust smells.

Once I get a little bit of my life settled in the comming weeks, I can give you all more details on whether letting you guys stay will be possible. I guess if worse comes to worse, i can just give you guys a key to the house and hope you guys wont trash it.

Mean time, lets get a head count! Who thinks they might take up the offer for a place to crash?

The furnished house is in Tolleson, 85353. About 30 or so minutes from Scottsdale (where the funs at, i think...) 5 bedrooms but only 3 beds so far. Some of you might have to crash on the couch or floor.

Well, im going back to Dallas tomorrow. MY BIRTHDAYS ON MONDAY!

Pretty damned expensive. To get an actual price just go to amtrak.com and type in the info.
There's actually a small chance I can have my car running in time to get up there, but I just don't see any way I can afford it. Stranger things have happened, though.

Flying is cheap on Southwest.

If you try right now you should be able to fly each way for about 109$ bucks.

From Houston, its 215 round trip after tax and fees. That will still end up costing 500 or so with hotel and food. Unfortunately I am in the middle of a turbo swap, so thats kinda eating up what little money I have.

Unluckily, I'm going to have to break my pattern of driving to every other 7stock, as I have some job related stuff to do this weekend. I believe my two local traveling partners have also dropped out.

On the positive side, there is a chance that I may be joining the Houston RX-7 club in the near future.

My wife and I will be driving a support vehicle. If you have any troubles, call 480-516-3102. We will be traveling a ways behind the caravan because we're puling a trailer, so help will always be "on the way."
