Rob has not been around for a while. The shop he used to have he moved out of. I think he still does a little side work here and there out of his house possible (I am not positive on this, heard it through the grapevine). Truth be told, I do not think there are any rotary shops in town to speak of. Your best bet is to really learn most of it yourself and maybe take the larger projects you are not comfortable with (motor rebuilds) to a large shop that is far away. The two closest to us that I know of that are worth the drive are in Dallas/Ft. Worth areas. Or if you need help with something feel free to pm me.

Rotary shop in Tulsa, OK?
I am going to see a 93 touring model with 9000 miles on it this week in Tulsa. The owner has been to a few rx7club meetings with the car, but I don't know how long ago this was. It gets about 1000 miles on it per year, and he tells me the car runs perfect. I was looking for some advice on where to take this car in Tulsa, OK to have it inspected. I want to get a comp test done and check that the coolant seals are in good condition among other things. This will be my first FD, so I am a little unsure about just taking it to the local Mazda shop, you guys know of a good place I can take the car on short notice? Any other things I need to watch out for with a car like this?

Who are you buying it from? There arn't too many FD's in Tulsa? There is not a local shop that I can reccomend, only engine builders. Only 1 guy I know of that "works" on Rx-7's. PM me for additonal info.

Let Nelson Mazda on 101st and Memorial do the compression test and coolant pressure test. Their techs are competent. Don't trust the service salesman farther than you can throw him unless it is Mark. Schedule ahead of time.
Everything else you'll have to look at. Check the usual stuff. Make sure the vin on the fireall matches that on the door sticker, dash. etc.
Check the rotary stuff. Before you start it, verify that the engine is cold. Then see if the car smokes on startup. etc.
There's a guy over on 81st and something in Broken Arrow. I forget the name of his shop.

Mechanic in Tulsa
I know the location of a local shop off of Admiral that has one young man 19 and a partner in his 30's that rebuild rotories from the ground up. They buy non running vehicles and restore for resell. I would be happy to get the address for you if you are interested in working with a couple of shade tree mechanics. I met them last year when my son's passion for rotary took us exploring for our first RX. The young man was in machining classes with my oldest boy last year. We have lost contact presently, but I could stop by the shop to get you the information. Let me know if you still need the help.

Another quite a bit of a drive would be Forth Smith Arkansas. There are quite a few rx owners there and probably a few mechanics as well. What exactly do you need done?

There are a couple of mechanics in OKC. Mark Akridge has a shop in Midwest City. And Brad, (rotaryinspired) on this forum does engine work.

I had a guy named Rob work on mine. He fixed my idle problem and replaced anything that looked like it was going to give me problems and tuned it up a little. He did a great job, he use to own a rx-7 shop and would rebuild mostly 3rd gens but now he does some side work at his house.
