It's funny how people post comment about the person, making the comments & how people should stay out of it.....but you just added, another 2 cents...of nothing....I might want a 500+Hp engine,if he can do it,like he says,he can do mine...

One thing I would like to say is this, I build engines, so when you say I want a 500+ hp engine I will build one that will hold up to that.

What you put on the motor makes the hp, with different types of porting it will make it easier or harder to make it.

Then you have tuning that will play a HUGE roll in making the hp, with a jacked up tune you may only be making 50% of the power that your setup will produce.

I am not the best tuner, I take along time and double check everything, I always direct people to Chuck Westbrook if they have a PFC

You can ask anyone that I have done work for what is one of the first questions I ask them, "What do you want the car to do?" Then I can tell them what is my suggestion to how to make it.

Chuck the last post makes, total & complete sense, that is the type of post we need to see more of....that's honest..I'd like to add that having a proven & reliable 500hp set up would be nice...horsepower is hard to read if it's not truly dyno proven, but having a 500hp reliable set up would be perfect...10sec timeslips are great also...

Do us a favor and spare the adults from your childish quest.

As far as recommendation for a good rotary builder, I'll say everyone but YOU and Gabriel Gonzalez.
Hah...comparing me to GG?!? You are just talking out of your *** now. I'm easily one of the most honest people around. I dont walk around saying I'm "THE" south texas rotary builder nor claim I make 500hp...or 550hp...or 706hp.

As for Chuck and me being in business competition...thats the farthest from the truth. I've built MY motors in MY car (dyno proven and quartermile timeslips to back it up), and helped with a couple of other motors for buddys...literally, 2 others...thats it. Those are dyno and track proven also. I dont claim to be a builder, nor am I in the business of building engines so no there is no local engine bulding business competition.

Funny how I'm the guy calling out dishonest horsepower claims...but I'm getting flamed...lol. That doesnt make any sense. Some people like to believe that they are more capable than they really are...thats fine, but dont tell people you can do something that you have yet to do...like making 500hp...that only happens on a dyno...no where else...not the street...not some backroad...not with a g-meter...ONLY ON THE DYNO.

Take it a step further and ask yourself: If some guy in an undynoed Mustang with 14 second timeslips was walking around saying he had 700hp, you would A; Defend him, or B; Call him out on his bullshit???

Of course you wouldnt...how convenient.

Well if all it takes to make 500hp is an unproven claim, then sign me up!!! But why stop there...hmmmm...

Attention folks: My 10th AE makes 960hp!!! I have no dyno to prove it, nor any track times...but you gotta trust me. While were at it, I helped work on Abel Ibarra's engine. Twice!!

If people did this without anyone asking for "some" type of proof, the minefield of baseless claims on this forum this is would be completely unnavigable to anyone.

All BS aside, baseless hp claims like this are unfair to the people that have actually built motors that achieve those hp levels. It makes all their uncommon work and experience seem very common, which we all know isnt.

So let me summarize this thread:

A new guy in town comes is asking if there are any local rotary mechanics to work on his car.
Chuck picks his car up from a non-rotary shop that already screwed the guy over.
Now everyones happy except Dom, who admits that he wouldn't have worked on the guys car anyway.
I think Dom should get a girlfriend if he wants this much drama.

I think its hilarious how all the Chuck defenders have come out and are bashing me for asking proof of these hp claims. Its a crowd of people staring at a brown horse and saying its blue and one guy saying the horse is brown and getting lynched for it.

Did you read the comments in the youtube vid??? Chuck said after he achieved the "550hp" he was going to go after 800hp!!! Then he said he achieved "706hp". But Chuck lied, AGAIN, in this very thread, saying that it wasnt his car he was refering to!!!

Heres the lie: Post #22 "...I never said that was my car I was talking about..."

Unbelievable that all this gets swept under the carpet.

Me being bashed or flamed is exactly the reason why other people just ignored Chucks silly hp claims...nobody wanted to go out on a limb and callout his hp claims for fear of being counterattacked.

I will admit that THIS thread was probably not the best place to start the topic of Chucks baseless hp claims...the only reason I did it in here, was because, like I said post #47, this is the thread where Chuck claims to have built motors that have made 500hp.

I originally didnt notice that you were refering to YOUR car. How did the dyno go the other day? Did ya'll cleanup all the spilled oil? What were the final numbers on that Chuck-built Half Bridgeport 60-1??? 220rwhp?!? 270rwhp?!? Haha...your gonna need more than that before you start calling out people.

Its widely accepted that if your in the business of providing a service, like you are, then you better be able to backup what you claim or eventually your going to get called out on your claims. In your case you CAN'T. Point proven.

Thanks Dom, you're heading in the right direction.

From now on I'm just gonig to have to assume that my car makes zero HP unless I have a dyno graph to prove otherwise.

Well being dishonest is a problem...how do you let someone, work on your car,if they can't tell the truth about something that isn't important to lie about? If chuck is making power & he has quoting Hp numbers, show us,some of us would be glad to spend money on getting a proper build by someone, that is honest...but don't blow smoke up our asses,if it's just for the sake of conversation...

It's ok to lie about,things like Santa & the boogie man...but telling people you have 500,600-700hp &having them thinking,that you're making this kind of power,and it's just a guess,just isn't right ...it's misrepresentation...
Why not sell a cure for cancer? It doesn't have to be proven, just say it'll cure it & sell it....

Its a 60-1 turbo - on a rotary, the MOST it is expected to flow is 400hp at 18PSI. (Disclaimer: this is not from my personal experience, this is from research and general consensus in the single turbo forum here. ***. )

My Synapse wastegate has been the biggest piece of **** and I have been unable to get it to hold boost with a boost controller. I thought I had the problem sorted out but on the dyno, the wastegate fluttered so much that the hp and torque curve looked like Michael J Fox drew it.

Yes the car had an oil leak on the dyno. The point of the dyno endeavor was to tune the car but the dyno was only rented for an hour. Unfortunately no tuning was done. Most of that hour was was spent addressing the leak and cleaning the spills. On the first two runs, the dyno operator flagged us to STOP the pulls at 5000 (226rwhp ) and then flagged us to STOP at 6000RPM(278rwhp) because of oil. The only run to redline produced 290 rwhp at 14PSI with the wastegate fluttering like a little bitch. That is the honest, dyno-proven story of my bad day. What I learned is that with the boost control issue remedied and tuning that I am on the way to a PROJECTED (not yet dyno proven ) near 400 hp car.

For what its worth, something good came out of all those problems. Ive fixed the wastegate problem and boost controller issues. Get some.

I guess we could race but Wait, do you even HAVE a running RX7???

I guess we could have a foot race or somethin but you'd probably still lose and have to do a ricer fly by.

Maybe we could have a three-legged race! That way we could all be friends again since no one really loses and you won't be so butt-hurted.

Apparently bigdv519 is not so much of a mechanic/engine builder after all.
OMG, he doesn't have a running car!?!?!?!?

To the OP: now you know who NOT to bring your car to fix.

Dom made more power with a second gen...& idk how much it cost to build that engine, but that 40 more Hp then stock for a third gen... Idk what parts that car has,but does it seem possible to make 110 more horsepower...with that setup?

Not trying to defend anyone's claims but this discussion brought up a few thoughts:

Does the motor build make the power, hardly. Stock ports and mazda remans can make 600+ rwhp, it's the supporting stuff (outboard of the motor) that really matters for power. Longevity is a function of so many things ... motor bits, build quality, supporting stuff but most setups fail too early to support any of the claims we read about on the inet. Most claims are from owners anyway, builders are typically hush hush about the reality of a mod'd rotary mostly because they seldom do the entire car to their own standards, it's the owners that mostly cheap their way to an unreliable build that doesn't have a chance to make the expected power.

I know Chuck and he is one damn fine human being, there's a reason so many have his back in here.
