Registration of FD in Texas?

Hey guys i have a question about registration of a verry moddified FD in texas.

I have a FD that's been doen almost everything to. Amemiya GT300 WB kit. Singel Turbo, coilovers, AP Racing big brakes, Fuel cell, roll cage. The car is registerd where it is now. And im thinking about taking it with me to texas when im moving there this summer.

I know emissions is a problem, but it should be managable.

Could i get problems registrating it with all the other stuff on it? Oh and the car is RHD, import from Japan. But it's registrated where i live now.

Registration and Inspection are seperate. Registering it shouldnt be hard, but you may have an issue getting past the emissions part of the inspection.

What part of texas are you moving to.

if where you are now is oslo, norway
then you're going to have a hell of a time trying to even legalize the car for american street use

There is an import waiver for non USA certified cars that are classified as show cars. But you can not drive them over 5000 miles per year.

Well im moving to Forth Worh. And the car is road leagal in norway. And have a title.

Here in norway u can register a car that have a title from the US. The emissions i think i can handle. The car has an enginemanagment system so turning down the fuel would be no problem. And also getting enough cat's on should not be a problem either i think.

Emissions is hard here too.

But how is it to registrate cars that an some one from another country is taking with them to the US. Id like to drive it in the US, even tho it's more suited for the track then the road.

I think he might be OK.

His car is a 92, a/k/a 93. It is the exact same thing that was crash tested for the FDs that were sold here. It is my understanding that you can import non-USA sold cars, if they are the same year as the US ones, so I think he is OK. This is a gray area. Now, obviously he will have to do stuff for the emissions.

But, this isn't as if he were importing a 96+ FD here.

Excactly the car have been sold and registrated in the us. Except this is a Right Hand Driven car tho.

Im hoping to get it registrated, since im going to abuse it alot on trackdays and autocross days. Since this is what it's built for

Last dyno sheets are 380rwhp at 14.7 psi of boost at 5500rpm on a Garett T04E.

And im gonna be boosting alot more

I might be wrong but I think you must past an emission/safety test before you can get it registered........This is for any vehicle that has not been registered in Texas before. This is what I had to do when I moved here from Michigan about 8 years ago.

First of all, I had two roommates in college that are from Norway. One from Bergen and one from Bodo. Hello to the Great White North!

If you're moving to Ft. Worth I would definately bring the car with you if you're going to be getting a house. You can easily get it registered and inspected for the street use, which shouldn't be a problem if you know the right people though it may not be entirely legal. As mentioned you can get it legally registered and inspected as a show car which is mileage restricted but you can drive it on the street occasionally. You can get a used truck for commuting and trailer the car to Motorsport Ranch, just about 40km south of Ft. Worth. There are also several other road courses within a five or six hour drive from D/FW. Because fuel is so much cheaper here I'm sure you'll be much more willing to burn as much as possible.

Personally I'd LOVE to see this car first hand and I know others in this area would as well. Heck, if it's all prettied up I bet you could even get a magazine article on it in one of the tuner rags printed here in the US. Bring it to D/FW RX-7 Club get togethers and you're sure to get it ooh's and ahh's.

Yea getting it in isn't all that hard and you will be able to get some waivers for it, it just might be alot easier to register it as a gray market. As far as the emissions goes there are always ways around this so i don't think its an issue.

Hmm this is good to hear

The way it looks now, it seams that i will be moving at the end of july. Just waiting for some money to come inn. And i want to attend the biggest "race" weekend here in norway.

Only problem i have is shipping the car to the US. There is no problem getting it shipped but the damn car is so low. I can't get it on a ro-ro boat. And i wont allow anyone else to drive it. Need to use a container. But we will see.

Oh and here is a pic of the car from last year.
