My 88 fc vert is running rich but not sure

So i have a street ported N/A fc s4 and it's my first time owning a rotory this is my first time posting so sorry if it's a bit long winded but I'm having some issues. So as far as reliability goes I've made some progress. I had to replace the radiator so I bought a koyorad radiator and then ditched the fan clutch in favor of a ford tarus fan (recommended by other rotory owners). My catalytic converter was clogged so I went the cheap rout and just replaced it with a mid pipe so technically its straight piped now. I replaced the starter the injectors the spark plugs the fuel pump and filter did a full service on oil and brakes as well as clutch I've replaced the battery and alternator. I've done an emission system delete but still have the rats nest and the bacv (the thing that sits on the side of the air box (the one bolted to the upper intake manifold) I deleted the airbox and had to switch to a duel pully system for my alternator (I wanna do a side mount but dont have the room for it yet) umm... sorry please stick with me I'm trying to be thorough. But yeah the one thing I'm having issues with is I know my idle is fucked cuz I'm pretty certain my previous owner fucked with a lot of **** trying to get it to run right and so like... I'm running hella rich and I can get it to idle below 1k like it's supposed to but it still surges from time to time. I talked to a lady down here in san antonio who suggested maybe my TPS is bad but even with her 12yes of experience she said shes not 100% sure it's bad. But as far as running rich I'll explain. So before it wasnt noticable like somtime my car would die out on the road like when I put on some throttle and I'd crank over and start right back up but now sometimes I'll go to crank and it just wont. And I did some research while I was stranded and was told to pull my inj fuse on the fuse box in the engine bay (it's the stock one) so facing the fuse box it's the 30amp and 40 amp closest to the motor. But so I'll pull them and crank for 10 secs then go to start and somtimes it fires up and works fine but sometimes it turns over and then struggles for a bit before it dies again. I also read somewhere it could be a faulty AFM or AFM plug. So one time I just unplugged it and plugged it back in and it worked great but now that doesnt seem to help. I just I need to know what my next step should be. Cuz I'm not sure if its actually a fuel issue at this point or if maybe it's not getting enough air to mix. Also it's been popping alot and shooting flames. I can smell the fuel everytime I go to park and also I can see light scorching on my bumper right above the exhaust. I know for sure I'm running rich I just dont know if it's an unhealthy amount cuz I did allot of work on the fuel system and it's just still giving me problems so I dont know if i should just move on and maybe replace the afm or the TPS or somthing intake related or if i should still stay stuck on injection and fuel system related. Theres just way too many possibilities and I cant figure it out.
also I've only owned the vehicle for a about a year now.

I don't have a whole lot of experience with rotaries either but from what I do know the first step is always check and make sure your TPS is adjusted properly. you can find instructions for how to do that in this thread. You can also get the LED thing that banzai racing sells so that you don't have to read the ohmmeter.
I would be surprised if the issue was the fuel system, my guess would be a sensor. You should be able to test the AFM by measuring the voltage when closed and opened, one should read 5 volts and the other should read 0. If it reads way off these (Like max voltage being 3.2 or something) then the AFM is bad. Thats all the advice I have but hopefully it helps.
