Honestly, the FD may be a loss and maybe it should have been saved over the mini. But in the grand scheme these storms are major and getting famiy out comes first second and third. If you want to drive a seven during your unscheduled vacation, I am only 50 miles from Shreveport

makes sense why they'd keep the cooper. They HAVE a reliable, economical car to drive around while they get their lives back together.......the 7 would have been bad on gas and daily driven by both of them and more likely to die at the hands of the wife......as long as the 7 is in the garage you can be sure it WILL turn on again in the future.....even if it needs lots of work
gas will probably be at an alltime high while demands increases and the supply there might decrease while they fix everything that was under water for quite a while and the mini will not inhale as much gas.

Where at in Metairie do you live in? Check out the forums on www.wwltv.com for updates on areas around Louisiana. This is all unofficial information being passed on, but it may be able to give you an idea of how your area is.
The worst areas are definately the 9th Ward (had a levee breech: 200+ people of roof tops, bodies floating in Bywater), east New Orleans, St. Bernard, Jefferson and Plaquemines Parishes. N.O. Mayor Nagin said that over 20 buildings in New Orleans had collapsed. Jefferson Parish residents are being ordered to boil water.
If us evacuees try to return now, we will be told to turn around and go back. Really sucks...
I'm on my computer in a LaQuinta Inn in Houston right now. I've been hearing reports on wwl's forums that my neighborhood and surrounding areas are okay. Okay meaning trees down, power lines/poles down, minor roof damage and possible blown windows; but no flooding. There is a suspected (not yet announced) levee breech on the 17th street canal at Bel-Air, which just so happens to be a couple of blocks away from my aunt's house. I'm hoping that it is just a rumor, but I'm having my doubts. I really hope that they have something to go home to.
Some areas are under upwards of 12 feet of water, but we definately didn't get as hard of a hit as Mississippi and parts of Alabama got.
Just to let you guys know what kinds of people live in N.O., while we still had Tropical Storm conditions HUNDREDS of people were seen looting a damaged Winn-Dixie. ******* pathetic. I wish the cops would just shoot the bastards where they stand.
Anyways, I didn't mean to highjack your thread. I hope your house is okay. Really, though, if you haven't yet, hop on the forums at wwl, and keep hitting "Refresh". Updates are constantly being added.
Best of luck, man. I hope everything is okay for you. I, too, had to leave my car behind because of the fact that my car doesn't run. It was really scary, but I am feeling optimistic now.
I will post updates later, guys.

I'll do you one better--
we took off yesterday around noon and made it to Texas. My 7 is at home(Vacherie). So is my truck. Both the car and truck made it without a scratch. Our house, however, is toast. the whole roof came off and everything inside is wasted. Apparently, from what the rest of the family(who did not evac) tells us, it was a tornado that ripped off our roof. from what else I heard, the sonic drive-in in town is levelled too.
we are returning tomorrow, and i am not looking forward to what I will find. we had plans to buy a new house soon anyways, but not like this. but the 7 made it!

You single guys need to keep quiet on his choices, this is his family, firstly their safety is paramount, they also have a say in what comes and what stays behind, besides it is just a car, a wonderful, thirsty, quirky car.
Hope you and your family are safe and my best wishes and thoughts to all of you at this time of anguish.

Yeah He did what needed to be done. Unfortuantely A sports car is luxury car meaning its praciiality falls through the floor. It doesn't have any ground clearance to prevent the engine from flooding. It can't toe anything it doesn't get good gas mileage. And is ultmately replaceable. Where as the majority of stuff he said was not replaceable. And it made it. God likes rx-7s remmember. My prayers are out to all of you people suffering through that good luck.

We can understand you took your boat and truck and packed all the stuff inti it, good move. but you can't tow anything with a mini, a mini isn't all the big in terms of packing things is it? Your FD is more valuable than your mini. What would be the difference between her taking the mini and her taking your FD? almost none. Unless you were in fear of it not working or stalling or soemthing along those lines.
