J-spec auto sports - arlington

As anyone in the DFW heard of these guys? I was browsing craigslist and saw a full REW engine, harness, accessories and trans for $1700. Any word if they sell decent stuff of junk out engines?

http://www.jspecauto.com the prices are higher on the web site, but here you go if you want to browse.

I saw them on craigslist as well and was wondering the same thing. They have a bunch of different engines for sale so it's most likely like all the other Importers from Japan, hit or miss..

There is also a place in Richardson that sells full swaps for around the same price, you can find them on ebay jdmenginescorp. I have thought about getting one of these setups lately but it's such a gamble if its good or not.

at least if you purchase from the richardson guys and something bad you can always go back instead of shipping stuff across the country

I might actually take a gamble on this, due to the fact, the previous owners word is all I have to go on if my motor was rebuilt @ 65k or not, and I'm currently in the mood to make some mods to my RX7, and all I will have is about 3k, and that will get me nowhere from Rotary Performance, maybe a port and a downpipe, lol. So, I might take a gamble, when I sell my turbo civic.

Just went to the site, I might actually save up and get the 20B.. $3800 isn't bad, for a full swap.

Thats just for the motor..... You should save up another 5000 for the actual swap.

You are so far off base on the cost for a 20B swap, that is not even funny.
Here you go read, educate and enlighten yourself on the topic, before you make the biggest economic mistake of your life.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=789775

Even the Gurus here debate on the cost of a 20B swap and it is in the low $20's.
Few have argued, that they can do it in the low $Kteens.
These people are fabricating, rebuilding, porting and doing all the labor themself.
So, unless you are in that crowd, don't do it.
You can get a Rotary Resurrection rebuilt ported engine for about that price or get a rebuild by a local mechanic, if you take the engine to them.
Even having done this with my 13B rebuilt, where it is a simple Plug & Play/Drop In and still had issues.
Imagine now going with a 20B and tons of fabrication and modification to fit this engine.

While on the topic, here is another good read about 20B cost.

Plus FAQ, that you must know about 20B swap.

They are quoting $2400 for a standard engine and $3400 for a 3mm streetport. Add in another $500-1000 for "other items" such as engine mounts, engine harness, etc.

Depending on if you turn wrenches $4000-$4500 is not that bad for a good motor with warranty that is local.

I have purchased from JDM engine Corp out of Richardson. He is easy to work w/. I walked in w/ cash and picked out my engine from what he had on hand. I turned it over by hand and he let me spend quite a bit of time looking them all over. BUT, and this is a very big BUT if you plan on dropping a JDM motor in w/ out rebuilding it then you are a gambler. You could have 2 bad motors on your hands. These are junkyard motors that you are buying. I use the JDM motors for cores to build off of and this is the only way I recommend using them.

Your best bet is to have someone local rebuild it for you.

I understand wanting to add power but if you do it wrong it will cost you 2 or 3 times as much. Save up and take your time. It will be worth it in the end. Otherwise, you will be pulling out your credit card and racking up debt to fix it again.

On their website they state that rotaries have no warranty. That might be a deal breaker.

Two different places. The one in Arlington is J-Star. That link is to some VA importer that's been around for years.

Word is this guy used to work for J-Hot before they went out of business
