Houston GP Reports

Since I'm stealing internet from Champ Car (and should continue to do so the rest of the weekend..... ) I figured I'd post some updates as they come along.

At the moment I'm stuck in registration, and so no juicy stories. But I'm headed to the paddock in a little while, so hopefully I'll have some pictures.

I will be out there after my meeting tomorrow. I am just around the corner so I should be there before 11.

I'm at the Holiday Inn but have been thumbing rides to and from the paddock.

Looks like I might have another job tomorrow, possibly driving a truck.

No offense to Team BK and Mazda...but they only got second because the RS Spyders couldn't finish the race and that was pretty much the only competition.

The rotary reliability (N/A that is) shines again and carried Guy (Cosmo) to another podium finish. I have some great footage of the team I need to post up.

I'll put it this way... I was afraid to say I was a rotary guy after that showing.

That's funny, I was twenty feet away and never knew it.

Scott was going to point me your way, but we never really had a chance. I went to the workers dinner on Fri and Sat, but didn't see you there either.

Both Porsches breaking within moments of eachother was disappointing. The Mazda finished but never had the speed all weekend.

Anyone else along pit road? The pit speed limiter on the Mazda sounded like my FD in limp mode, only worse!

I spent most of that race in the chicane area.

^ We watched the actual ALMS and Champcar races from our seats at start/finish but roamed around for the other races as well as practice and qualifying. My favorite spots were on the inside of the chicane just behind the fence as well as Turn 8.

I'll post pics tonight.

We were between turns 6-7. The best part was during the atlantic race when the winner did donuts in the runoff area right in front of the grandstand. I was pretty unimpressed with the speeds as well-around 105 tops right? The mazda car did seem to suck *****, however I got a signed poster to hang in the garage, which was pretty cool.

The circuit was BUMPY. I have never seen a street circuit throw cars around as much as this one and it was bumpy the entire way around to boot. On the scanner you could hear the drivers' voices stuttering as they traveled the bumps.

The Champcars were holding back through the long curve around the arena, they could only get so much power down due to the bumps. If you watched closely during each of the practice sessions drivers were working different parts of the track on different laps searching for the smoothest spots. The bumps were responsible I'm sure for the several gearbox failures in the ALMS race. One of the Dyson cars blew a gear right as it passed us at start/finish; you could hear the box balk.
