Would you mind PMing me who these "SCCA folks" are?

The reason I ask is, the few SCCA folks I know who actually have a title or who actually get things done already have a tentative date at MSRH....

I'm curious who's starting this stuff given all the BS and lies as far as MSR and why it hasn't/can't/won't be SCCA approved. It'd be nice to put this crap to a stop before it gets out of hand (again).

BTW... the back straight is over 4000 ft long i think the guy said... and year that sweeper is wicked... you can accelerate until forever around it, it seems.

Well, I was there.

I had fun, but I really, really wish they had divided th run groups up into "Advanced" and "Novice". I did not get a single lap- not one- where I was able to run without traffic. That gets exceptionally frustrating.
"Oh look, another Miata in the way..."
I took THREE trips into the hotpits to let the traffic clear.

It looks like Damon had much better luck in his group. I don't know if that's because of the experience level or the fact that old men in 120 hp Miatas are slower than 20-somethings in 290+ hp 350Z's and STI's... Either way, his group looked to be a LOT less of a bottleneck.

It did, however, allow me to rest the car periodically which kept the oil and brake temps in check. New oil cooler works great- temps never went over 250 and fell rapidly during the cooldown lap.

Overall, I'd say the Apex school is very good experience for Novices who want to get into legal, safe racing.

 

Hahaha. I remember looking out there once and counting six cars nose to tail in your group. It looked like a slow moving train.

My group was really good about pointing you by. Out of all 4 sessions I think there was only once where I had to wait more than one straight to be let by. The Audi and I had a lot of open laps in the last two sessions and had a blast chasing eachother. That RS8 was an incredible car.

It was so cool I had zero trouble with temps. Coolant never got over 180F but best of all the brake pads never faded. The Porterfield R4S held up perfectly and I didn't expect them to on race tires. I had all the brakes I wanted all day.

 

Did your 710's ever get hot, Damon? I was running Goodyear GSCS tires and they never got sticky. There wasn't a single rock on them when I drove through grid.
I know the Audi RS6 was going to use a pyrometer on his, but the temps weren't even high enough to measure, according to Chris.

I don't know if it was the tires, the cold, or what.... but I won't be using these tires ever again. Should've spent the money on 710's- at least then I could use them at autocrosses, too.

 

I checked them with the pyro twice; before and after a pressure change. They were only getting to 115ish. So the answer to your question is no!

 

Anybody know if Apex will be holding class at Houston MSR (or any other driving school for that matter)?

 

I have no idea. Just give the office at MSR Houston a call and ask about schools or instruction. I'm sure they would be happy to help.
