The Rx-8 will tear up a FD on a road course but it is still a family car.

I sitll think that the Rx-8 is a sports sedan. Mazda and you just want it to be a sports car. Still love the 8 though. Just wish you guys would quit whining that your car is a sports car.

Playing devils advocate:

Has Mazda fixed the excessive oil comsumption on the RX8???
How about the warping problem and noisy front rotors???
Has anyone here mentioned, that there is a thing called speedometer error???
Did Mazda find the "lost ponies" for the RX8 engine???
What is the engine HP rate now, I can't keep up with Mazda, have they made up their mind yet.
I still have to see a "Real Sport" car with 4 doors, call the RX8 a "Sport Sedan", it fits better.
X-Men are trying to get Magneto to design a new engine for the next movie: "The Revenge of the RX8"
I hear there is a chase between the RX8 and the RX7 at 140.5 mph, WOW!!!!!!

You know me, just stirring the pot, since the thread got boring.

This sounds like it is on subject. It is the truth as well. Stock for stock a Rx-8 will own a FD on a road course because th chassis and handling is better even if it isn't making the boosted horsepower. The Rx-series was naver made to be a major player on the drag strip. People who talk quater mile times with these cars are dumb. 'Nuff said.

Still standing by this comment. I love the eight but it isn't a sports car. Sports Sedan it is. Just because it can be raced doesn't make it a sports car. The Civic is raced... Not a sports car... The Honda Insight is raced... Not a sports car... And the list goes on.

I haven't personally seen this but I have read that the Rx-8 will make better track times on a road course. *shrugs*

I would still rather have an 8.

It dawns on my old selective-memory brain that the RX-8s were, in fact, stock and the majority of the FDs present that day were far from that condition....ooops, apples-to-oranges comparison, sorry...

Me neither, but this one time, at Band Camp, this kid.....

Mason, why don't you change your screen name to:
MASON Rx8 ?????

I still rather keep my R1 single turbo over any 8.

dude, you left out the flooding issues too, c'mon, if you're going to take shots at least load the gun up correctly.

is mazda still selling the fd here, why'd they have to quit making them, why'd they quit selling them in the us? let me drudge up all the bs about broken apex seals, and blah blah blah too. How much did the fd cost when it first came out? did it start at 25 grand as well? here's another one for you, if you want to stir the pot or whatever, was the FD perfect the first year or so it was out? is any new car that way anymore? All new cars have issues when they're first released, so bringing up old news that's since been corrected anyway seems kinda' silly. So they goofed on the hp numbers, they also came right out and said they did, even offered to buy the cars back. I love the FD, it's probably one of my dream/all time fave cars out there, but even I know it has its share of flaws too, but do I go around talking **** about it and saying my 8 is the best thing evah? nope, that's just plain stupid, plus I bought the 8 because I liked it, not so i could drive around running my mouth like an idiot. I could also say, why do we have more 8's on our runs than any other generation? Must be a very problematic vehicle since I never see them on our club runs. let it go already, the car was never intended to be the next fd, Mazda even said so.

oh geez, I guess you're right then. They raced Gt40's, still race Corvettes, not to mention Miata's, Rx7's, Supra,s whatever. They also race Bmw M5's all over the frickin' place, so an M5 is a sports sedan too? I guess this works both ways, since those cars "Race" as well, they can't be called sports cars either, now that everything has been claarified, maybe the SCCA should change their name as well, that way all the members who race Rx8's on the weekend can get new stickers that display SSCCA (Sports Sedan Car Club of America?) or something....yeeesh...

I swear some folks on this board will say just about anything to trash the 8, even if it means bringing up old garbage, and that astounds me. We should all be happy about it's release, not trying to shoot it down. Why can't people be excited about it? it brought back the rotary for crying out loud, not to mention introduced a whole new generation of people to it. Now at least we have a shot at another 2 door rotary powered car in the future, without the success of the 8 we wouldn't have that. pot stirred, liquified, and that's all I gotta' say about that.

Sportscars are two-seaters by definition. The RX-8 is not a sportscar, period, though it does have the heart and suspension of a sportscar. The 2 seat Lotus and Panoz offerings are sportscars, their 4 seat variants are not. The FD, by virtue of its suspension, engine and having two seats was a sportscar. They could not sell them here in America simply due to the fact no one wanted to pay $25,000+ at the time for a japanese sportscar. They priced the RX-7 out of its market and doomed sales here. Unable to sell them, they simply killed the American market offerings. The Nissan 300ZX suffered exactly the same fate at about the same time, if I remember right.

I'm not an RX-8 hater. In fact, I helped talk an area manager into one. She saw my RX-7 parked over two spaces every day and came up to ask questions about the RX-8 since I had an RX-7. I mentioned the oil "issue" that Autoweek staffers had encountered but also mentioned they seemed to be the only ones that had it that bad. I explained why a rotary does that and then pitched the rpm of the engine and the suspension which was golden by every writer that had tested the car so far. She chose it over the similarly-priced Lexus and Infiniti cars after that......aaannnnddd I also said it handled like a sportscar but had two extra seats for kids or small adults, so it wasn't "handicapped" in that respect like my FB...another point that sold it to her, I'm sure...

Mission accomplished.
Yoooo!! TWEETY RX8, you don't have an FD, because you can't afford one
The FD is a Real Sport cars, the up keep is going to cost alot, but the smiles it puts on my face when I drive it.....PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!

Why don't you cry about it?

It still isn't a sports car. I'm not trashing it at all. I like the Rx-8 and I'm glad they are bringing back the rotary. It is a great thing for the community, but that doesn't make the Rx-8 a sports car. Just because the Rx-8 isn't a sports car doesn't mean that it isn't a wonderful car that's quick and handles well. It just isn't a sports car.

Gosh...I was pleasantly enjoying the RX-8 vs RX-7 banter then it turned into something completely different. Now I'm all confused. I recently put rear seats in my FC and I use it to pick the kids up from school every day. Since I don't have nifty rear doors I feel confident in assuming it's not a "sports sedan" but since "by definition a sports car has 2 seats" I am left to believe my FC is now a family car? Hmm...oh well, I guess that works for me. I love my family car FC!

^^^^^^^In my book, you had a 2 door 2 seats Sport Car, that has been converted into a 2 door 4 seats Sport Sedan Car.

By definition "door":
Movable structure held by hinges to close a pathway on a building, furniture or vehicle.
By definition"sedan":
2 or 4 door automobile, that has seats in the front and rear.
By definition, the RX8 has 4 doors and seats in the front and rear, therefore it is a Sedan, end of discussion.

OH noooooo by definition, my '05 M3 is a SEDAN!!!????
Don't forget Porsche 911 is also a SEDAN!!!!

I think you can read, right???
I wrote "by definition", that means, from the dictionary.
So take the battle up to them.
In the mean time "by definition", your 996 is a SEDAN just like my M3, get it???.

What do they know, they require a front license plate for cars and not motorcycles.
