Mustangs are good for what they are - a budget sports car. You have to compare them in their price range for them to be a good car, and if you do THAT they're not bad.
For $17,000, would you rather have a v6 Mustang, or a Dodge Caliber RT, or a Toyota Camry? Just for $17,000 don't expect it to outperform a $30,000 Nissan 350z. But since it's a Mustang, aftermarket parts are cheap - so for another $4,000-6,000 you can probably get close. And the first thing to do is redo the entire suspension.

Just whenever you get the chance, that'd be awesome - I'll try to return the favor sometime, somehow.

Besides, the v8's get rid of most of the pony emblems and put the GT letters on it, so you're not exactly buying a lookalike car.
It's not like that was my choice anyway, for the same $17,000, you could PROBABLY buy a 2 year old Neon with the sport package and 12,000 miles left on the warranty as a daily driver, a 1 in 500ish 1992 factory Stratosphere Blue Mercury Capri convertible for a show car, and a 1987 FC for a race car/fun car, and still have $6,500 leftover for paint, parts, and polish.

Don't get me wrong... there's nothing wrong with a v6 in general.... but if I buy the name Mustang... I'm making damn sure I'm buying a V8 which the starting price is around $26.4K.

And Jacqui... when I said Roush, or any of these companies for that matter, I mean the top model.... completely modified to the welds of the frame. If they can sell you a car without you having to go buy a stock one from the dealership, OR you do have to but the car doesn't have an ounce of originality left in it..... it IS a different car because nothing on it is what you started out with. Its no longer a Ford Mustang... its YOUR Mustang!!!!!!
Of course just about any muscle car pre-80s kicks *** no matter what it is. I saw this uber clean Sky blue 1969 Boss Mustang like 2, or 3, weeks ago and it looked and sounded absolutely amazing. Oh gawds... speaking of which.... I left out Shinoda!!!!
1979 5.0 mustang: 140hp
77-78 5.0 mustang: 134 hp
75-76 5.0 mustang: 140hp
1973 302 mustang: 141 hp
1972 302 mustang: 140 hp
Now then, you may argue that "those" arent "muscle cars" and yes, there are really super fast mustangs. But most of them DONT live up to the legend. The majority manufactured were the 6es, and just knowing that my 13 year old v6 is faster than some of these v8s... ...well, sorry
I go to car shows many of which are littered with mustangs. Some of which I'll see each car you speak of with atleast 10 of each present. And then I see my mustang. People dont think its special. Its a 13 year old 145 hp ford. But its the ONLY 6 cylinder there, and almost always the ONLY one of that body style, and wow, stock, its faster than those cars.
Oh, and BTW, 2005+ v6 mustangs came with 210hp, and the very last 5.0 gt only put out 215hp... ...thats pretty sad.

Second a 93 5.0 would get 0wned by a brand new STOCK v6 mustang.
How are you suppost to look cool when youre being passed by something like that?
I mean, I'll respect a 93 v8 coupe, for 2 reasons 1) its a mustang and 2) its the legendary 5.0, but its 205 hp... ...now considering that the engines 14 years old theres probally some power loss there

Yeah... ...like those Eleanors you can pick up over at Farmers Branch. Yeah, they were born a 6 cylinder, but after a full frame off restoration, it recieves a shelby badge and VIN... ...but I still see them as $100,000+ 40 year old 6 cylinders.

HP also != defintion of muscle car. That pre-80s statement only meant that they are one of the best representations of a "muscle car" Mustang to date. If by 6es you mean 6 cylinders.... its perfectly understandable.......BECAUSE THEY'RE CHEAPER!!!111 To many people that wanted the Mustang that couldn't afford the v8... the v6 was the next best (affordable) thing.

The v6 mustang was made for an economic sports car (whatever that is). I see that the companies want to make money and some people can not afford a v8 but.... it is a "sports car".... not "family friendly eco box (still only get about 16 mpg) that is suppose to look like a sports car".
A new corvette is ready.... faster than the z06.... *drool*

I have to agree the 93 mustang coupe was one of the better foc boddied mustangs. it was very light, and I doubt it would loose to a new v6 mustang...how heavy are those things...right!
how did this thread turn into a mustang thread? give me an F40 with tubi exhaust and you can keep all your mustangs.

Mustangs have an awesome musclecar rep because of what you CAN do to them, not because of what they come from the factory with, which I guess sums up what I was trying to say before. They're the great American Tuner car. You can almost get a pair of ceramic coated headers (that's two sides!) for a Mustang cheaper than you can buy a used stock exhaust manifold for the RX7. :P
And if you gave me an F40 with tubi exhaust, I'd sell it and pay off my house.

you kidding a caterham powered by a TII...I will lone you some binoculars that way you could still make out that little blurry red spec (ME!) of in the distance pulling away from you.

No no, a TII powered Caterham.
With a 200hp Ford Focus motor in it, it's a 5:1 power to weight ratio. The Z06 Vette is like, what, 10:1? With a nice conservately setup 300hp TII motor in it, the weight ratio would be around 3.3:1. Plus it would turn corners like teh awesome. I'd blow your doors off to about 140-150 - no way I'm going faster than that in that little thing. Then I'd use my binoculars so I could make out that little blurry red ball of flame in the distance from where some soccer mom on her cellphone changed lanes in front of you in her Yukon without signalling.
