where to get a vband q and a
so i got this BW s-200 turbo today. it dosent have a flange on it for a DP.
I figure i wanna go Vband but how do i do that. i know what a vband is and how the clamp goes over the flanges... but how do i connect the little v flange to the turbo. In the housings that have them the little flange is set back off the turbo a little so you can fit a clamp over it.
The vband flanges and clamps i have seen for sale just have a little rim of a flange and a clamp.
what gives?
here is a pic of the back of the turbo. the outer ring is 4" on center
its a 1.15 rear and i want to spool it quick so i was thinking about going 4" dp and 3" catback.

You have to pull the turbine housing off and send it to somebody like Majestic Turbo or Turbonetics to get them to weld the flange on for you, unless you can have someone do it locally.

http://burnsstainless.com/Hardware/Clamps/clamps.html
that site has vband clamps like what i need. looks like a top hat with the top cut out.
Will stainless weld to the cast hot side?

I ordered my V-stuff from atpturbo.com
The v-band that i got for the turbo side had a rim on both sides and fit perfectly into that groove around the exit of your housing. The the "pipe" side just had a rim on 1 side.

yes. . . atpturbo is the place to go. . . and no, you dont have to send it off to anyone. . . just make sure you get a good welder. when my two bolt flange broke off my xsto4e i decided to upgrade to a 60-1 AND go to vband. . . cause it woulda been easier to line up to the downpipe. so, i took the hotside to a good welder friend and had him weld BOTH sides (inside and out), then i stuck it on the lathe and ground it down. . . well. . . david garfinkle helped with most of that. . . i was busy lining pipes up or something. anyways, its not a super special process.
i guess if you cant get a good welder. . . then yes. . . youll need to send it off, but i would assume that a good welder can be found ANYWHERE.
also, the reason my flange broke off is because the clamp that connects the downpipe to the transmission was NOT there. it had WAY too much ability to move. this is a must (on any car i do turbo work on now) to be in place. it was a pain to have to deal with the broken flange and im lucky it was JUST the flange that broke and not anymore of my hotside. so, just a word to the wise to EVERYONE. . . PUT THAT CLAMP BACK ON YOUR CAR. . . AND IF YOU DONT HAVE THE CLAMP ANYMORE (like me) THEN MAKE ONE. . . ITS NOT THAT HARD, AND IT SAVES SOOOOO MUCH MONEY IN THE LONGRUN!!!!
there. . .

It takes a pretty good welder to weld stainless to cast. Its a fairly involved process that inlvolves heating the cast iron first. It also takes a special filler rod for the welder called Arcalloy W (sp?). Majestic Turbo did mine for $20+shipping to them.

i understand what it takes to have that done. . . thats why i said, "get a good welder". i trust the welder i used/use so, thats why i would look no further. he has experience and works on tractors and such. . . im sure hes welded a bit of cast in his day. anyways, your price from majestic is pretty good. . . might as well go with that since its an easier deal. . . no searching involved. BUT, if you need anything else welded in the future itll be nice to know where the EXPERIENCED local welder is located.
i guess i shouldnt have said that it wasnt a super special process. . . or i shouldve added something like you dont have to do the welding under water or anything. basically, for a good welder. . . its work. . . not an extreme circumstance.
