What is your opinion ?

I'm sure this has been covered a million times here before but I'm not real familar with what is the best for an FD. ( hence my name I drive an FC ) My friend wants to get rid of the twins on his FD and go to a big single. Just a brief response of what manifold and turbo ? Thanks guys, and I appreciate any info.

that all depends on a number of factors: how much is his budget? how/where will the car be driven, street or track? what kind of power numbers does he expect? what other mods has he done to the car and is willing to do?

just street driven and not huge numbers either. As far a other mods it is all stock now but I can help him out with the other stuff he'll need.(i.e. fuel or engine managment , boost levels)

you're going to need a lot of other stuff before he can go single. if it's totally stock, start off with reliability mods (check the FAQ's). some of those will also get the car ready to go single. another option would be to go non-sequential, has he considered doing that?

Yeah, I have a single turbo. A/R trim is 0.70. Good boost and spool up for the street - starts about 4k.

BUT, other things are needed besides the single turbo......I have an aftermarket stand alone ecu, modified fuel system (upgraded pump, lines, injectors, etc), strengthened motor mounts, front mount IC, upgraded cooling system, etc, etc. Not everything mentioned is necessary but I would recommend most if not all.

A single turbo really means "single turbo, upgraded ecu, fuel and cooling system, etc, etc". You really can't "just" do the turbo without many additional upgrades.

As mentioned above, I'd have your friend look at makings sure he has a good base (reliability mods and what not), then maybe go non-sequential and do mod by mod (ecu, fuel and cooling system, etc) and save the single turbo for last once he has most everything else in place.

Unless he wants to spend big money all at once (don't forget tuning can cost big $$$).
