What is a R85 turbo?

I am looking at a car that is making 400whp and is said to have a single R85 setup....The owner claims it is a responsive turbo (14lbs by 3600) on a streetport.

The search doesnt work on 3 letters so i cant research....so who makes this turbo..and is it good?

I have the R85. It's a very impressive setup. On stock engine porting you can make 400whp on 15-17 psi. Throw in some porting and you lower the threshold...

Didn't you first say he had a street port? Anyhow I have the turbo too.... and a half bridge... however I won't have my motor in the car till this weekend. The guy I got my turbo from made like 550ish whp. Search for Blitzed33, he's the one I got mine from, think he has some dyno sheets floating around here.

Greg didn't use the R85 to get 611rwhp. He used a Borg Warner S300. The R85 is a good street turbo, but your not going to crack any hp wars with it.

actually the r- 85 is the borg warner s 300 also known as ht-300 from schwitzer
greg used the 360 compressor wheel i belive to get over 600. the regular r-85 kit on a streetport should see mid 500 on race fuel.

wow, sounds like I might be getting a very nice motor setup. I do not want that much HP. I would like 400whp "reliable"

Reactive Racing is located in MD I thought? Dee does come up to JPR Imports to do tuning which is located in NJ. I got a ported motor done by JPR, ordered a R85 off of Dee Wensday night. Hoping to have it running this week and starting to get it broken in.
