what is max boost if w/g spring is 9psi?

with an external wastegate , 9 psi spring, what is max boost you can achieve with a boost controller(manual or electronic)??we were at the dyno and the elec. boost controler was set at 32 psi but it wouldnt go past 24!

a similar problem with my car ,9 pis spring also , i use a manual boost controler, with the **** all the way up , 28 psi max!

keep in mind the turbo is big, a t72 ballbearing , Q trim
both cars have same size turbos, but my wastegate is smaller
any help is appreciated!

I had trouble regulating 18psi with a bleed value with a 9psi spring. I got a 18psi spring in it now and it work fine.

the 9 lb. spring is too weak to regulate that much boost even if you are fooling it w/ a boost controller. you need a spring a little closer to your target boost level

Usually you size a WG spring within a few pounds of your normal boost level. With some WGs this helps with spoolup too.

With that said, i don't think that is the problem.. I would guess more that you are having trouble spooling the turbo. Is the WG closed when it hits 24PSI or open?

Usually, you can boost up to 2.5x the weight of the WG spring. For example, If you have a 9lbs spring, You shouldn't have any problems boosting up to 23lbs of boost. 15lb spring is good to about 38psi of boost. I'm pretty sure its 2.5x but it's been so long that I wasn't sure anymore. I used to run a 7lbs spring and I was having a hard time keeping the boost to 22psi. I now run a 15lb spring and everything seems to be stable for me.

Turbonetics can supply any rate spring you need.
Above the regular 12 psi spring they use a dual spring set-up. Give them a call. I've used the dual spring set-up from them in the past.

Robert,
I won't be able to race much this year. I don't want to run my car unless I know I have a better chance to run low 9's. We'll see what I can come up with in the next few months.

Does anyone know if the eletronic boost controllers assist the WG to regulate higher boost on a 9psi spring?
Similar to a blow off valve with its vacuum line?
Does that make sense?
