Any of you guys ever think about just running the fuel return line through the A/W intercooler? That would eleminate the need for a pump and resivor. I think 10 or so gallons of ambiant fuel would take a LONG time to heat up... and a heat exchanger could aso be added if need be.

I forgot all about this thread, so I will update it after 3 years. With my closed loop system, I didn't have enough volume of water, so it would heat soak quickly. I got an ice box from cx racing and the added volume took care of that issue. It runs about 10-15 degrees F above amb and with H2O injection coming on at 5 psi the temps are equal. I have not tried ice yet.

Resurrecting thread since I finally got some data, after using the setup for 2 years lol
Accuweather.com reported a 56F for my zip code
Weather.com reported a 60f for my zip code
Driving through the city (rush hour) - IAT of 68-70F
Coasting (trans in neutral, engine at idle) - IAT went down to 65F (while going downhill)
WOT pull of 3rd gear & 4th up to 5K rpms (TO4S @14psi) - IAT of 75F
Sitting in traffic (engine at idle) - IAT of 70
Posting cause the info was requested (one of them was me ) and this type of info was never posted. Hope is useful to others

Here is my setup.
Holset HE351VE 11psi
Ebay intercooler
Garrett 26x6x1.5 heat exchanger (mounted high out of airflow)
Cobra pump
No resevoir (bleeder screw on high point and fill port.
Cruising around, my IATs are around 10F over ambient.
4th gear pull from 2k-6.5k IATs go from ~70F to 130F.
I just added 2 3" brake cooler fans to the heat exchanger and will be testing them this weekend with water/meth injection to come soon after. I also ordered a factory GT500 resevoir to use as an easier method to fill and as an air separator.

This isn't an RX-7, but I figure the air to water intercooler installation on my '76 Cosmo would be of interested to some.
Part one is the main mechanical work like fabbing the throttle body inlet, intercooler piping, mounting, water tank, etc.
Part 2 is the plumbing, pump, wiring, brackets, etc.

That's good to know. Since I have measurement of the tank temperature it will be fairly obvious if I'm getting heat soak. Most people aren't using water tanks it seems, probably for ease of installation and space issues. I went with the tank because it provides a huge thermal mass and is like a "store and forward" method of cooling. We can heat that water up when the engine is under load then gradually shed the heat with the exchanger. Air to water temperature and fan control is actually being added to the MS3 firmware at my request.

Any other water to air intercooler setups out there?
