wastegate size opinions ?

previously ran a Tial 38mm WG with TO4B turbo. Never had any problems with creep or boost control. Upgrading to 60-1 with .70 AR coldside and .84 AR on the hotside. Is the 38mm gonna be to small ? Is 44mm going to be needed for this size turbo ? Or is the only way to tell to run it and watch for boost creep ?

I have 38mm on my t04s with no issues.

That makes me happy to hear. That's less money to spend and one less thing to do on the list if my 38mm will work. Isn't the TO4S about the same as a 60-1 ?

And If I do change to a bigger WG it'll be the Tial v-band 44mm. ( not HKS LOL )

Youll find out.
It also depends how the manifold is made.
Short runner manifolds(basically small volume) always need much bigger gates.

A 60-1 is a t04s. Just another name for it.

That's what I thought I had read somewhere. Cool thanks guys. Like rx72c said I'll just have to try it and find out. ( very carefully )

Just wondering what were your problems with the HKS 40mm?

it just didn't flow enough, at least on an HKS FC log-style manifold with a T04S. I had a 10psi spring in there and it would creep from 11-13 psi if the outside temperature was under about 50 degrees F. When i turned the boost up I would have to crack it open pretty early to keep it from creeping up top. You can definitely make it work, but the boost curve was not consistent enough for my liking.

I think you would've seen a difference with a proper manifold, the HKS logs don't exactly optimize wastegate flow...

40mm is small on a good manifold.
I dont run anything other then a 60mm gate.
never had overboost problems.
