check it out! turbo oil feed filter, good idea against turbo failure?

what do you guys think?

input and questions welcomed, here is a little info about it..

the turbo oil pre-filter prevents small debris, from say a motor failure,or any mishap, that normally would send metal debris through your engines oiling system, and into your turbo damaging it!! the filter is easily installed in your turbo oil feed line, preventing any possibilty potentially damaging debris from entering your turbo! available with 1/8 or 1/4 pipe fittings for ease in installation.. the anodized unit is universally mountable for accessability and a replaceable element is available at most auto parts store for easy maitinence..

I like it and think it's a good idea. The 10 valve Audi Turbo Quattro came stock with a turbo oil filter.

I woulden't do it and here's why. I'd say it would actually make oil contamination worse if you installed a in line filter. When ever you spin on and off a new filter you induce contamination. Notice how dirty the threads are on a new filter when you take it out of the box, that's the stuff you'll be sending through your turbo. The engine oil filter should be more than enough to filter the oil that goes to the turbo. Now installing a small cooler (maybe a auto trans cooler?) is a intresting idea if your oil temps are high. Something to think about. Plus if you put a prefilter to the turbo and it happens to filter the oil more then the main engine filter you can run into problems that way also. If the turbo filter does most of the filtering and starts to fill up with contaminate it will start to starve the turbo of oil.

What about remote mounting the oil filter(s) and just t into the line and send cool freshly filtered oil to the turbo that way?

I have supplied inline oil filters for turbos. They kinda make sense on BB units the thing is it is one more thing to make sure isn't clogged(not a bad thing) and if you don't it will cause oil starvation to the turbo.

Robert,
I don't see a need because if the filter gets clogged you still get the same result, right?

You already have an oil filter for the turbo, it's getting filtered oil just like the rest of the motor. I thought about putting an oil accumulaor on the turbo awhile back, it would oil the turbo after the motor shuts off, so while the turbo coasts down it would get oil for lubrication plus it would cool down the bearing a bit.

thats better, cause you put the turbo oil feed after the oil filter(s) but before the motor

This is a good idea. This way it won't get heated up while traveling through the engine to the turbo.

the filter has an internal bypass so it wont stop oil flow whan it clogs, but since its only filtering the turbo oil it will take a long time to clog up.. also since its a common filter it would be easy to change with your normal oil change...
