Turbo glowing Red?!

Turbo glowing Red?!
After about a sixty mile drive i popped my hood to try and find where the exhaust was leaking from and i saw the turbine glowing red underneath the turbo dipper. On the highway the A/F ratio was anywhere from 13.9-14.5. Mods- Large Street port, S372 Turbo, PFC. The car was tuned but i wasn't sure if the turbo glowing hot was normal, unless it was glowing from the dipper keeping all the heat in. The inside of the manifold looked whiteish to me it seems like the car is lean. What are your thoughts? I was not getting on the car either, the water temps were at a max 88*C it was raining out and about 60*F outside.

Although almost every other modern car will run at 14.7:1 or leaner during no load/cruise, these cars like to be a bit richer. Adding some fuel may help. The turbo really shouldn't be glowing if you are just driving easy.

all depends on egt's really.
on my old t04s and a stockport cosmo my turbine housing and part of my dp would glow if i drove the car for a while and wasnt beating on it, egt's under cruise were pretty hot though due to my attempts at getting some decent around town milage

i see that you guys are responding add fuel but with a bad and i mean bad exhaust leak ( like i was embarrassed to drive it) do you think that the car could have been showing leaner signs because of the exhaust leaking out.. And another reason it may look lean is because the last tank of gas before the trip or should i say 5 gallons of gas that was ran through it was race fuel C16 and i know that the lead turns the exhaust whiteish but would it stay that color if i ran another 10 gallons of 93 through her? I had Demetrious tune the car so i figured its safe.. How much would i turn the duty cycle up for the primary injectors they're 750cc?

Provided your afr's are accurate i would say your running on the rich side for cruise non boost areas. I run as lean as the car will go without hesitating, generally 15.5 to 16 under cruise and closer to 14.7 at speeds under about 40. If you search about glowing housings you will see alot of people have this happen. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I def wouldn't add fuel unless those afr's were under boost. I've had my turbine housing glow after cruising too, thats when i searched and found its quite common.

Here is my guess... you had this exhaust leak when you had the car tuned.
The tuner noticed that your AFR's were running a bit lean (with the exhaust leak) and decided to add more fuel. The most common culprit of the glowing manifold / turbine is running a car too rich. I bet once you fix that exhaust leak your AFR's will be anywhere from 10.5 to 12

The biggest difference in reducing EGTs was by advancing my cruise timing, and leaning it out a little. I think its "tuned" quite well, but yeah my mani and turbine will glow after a good thrashing.
I always drive easy for the last 3-5 minutes before I get to wherever, and if my EGTs are over 600C at idle (probe mounted in HKS log mani, just before T4 flange) that indicates a slight glow. Honestly the highest Ive seen at idle was about 700C, but I just turbo timer it for about another 2-3 minutes.

My old turbo had a .82 housing and my new one is .96. i haven't noticed this one glowing like my old one. Although it's ceramic coated so this might be a factor as well. A more restrictive housing does seem to increase EGT's, and it makes sense that it would.

I have experienced it on 2 occasions, one time faulty coil (ignition problem). And a second time when a o-ring from one of my injectors blocked the fuel spray so it dripped and I got after burn in the manifold.
