My bro picked up a drawthrough turbo setup for his 12a. It's a t4 manifold and an adapter that bolts between the stock carb and that LIM. He need to buy a turbo for it and I suggested that he since he is limited on resources that he give an ebay turbo a try. I know.. I know... but he bought the car for $300 and the kit for $300 and if he can get an ebay turbo for a couple hundred more he can have a turbo 1st gen for $1000.

He is planning on taking it to the local drift/autocross track. He probably won't be able to run much boost before he blows up 5psi, and he wants to have good response. Here are the turbos he is considering.

Aside from telling me that these turbos will blow up in a year( his engine will probably blow first), let me know what you think of the sizing for a 12a stock port with stock carb.

If you have seen a cheap alternative to these turbos that might suit his application better please post. Thanks for your help in advance.

 

you need a carbon seal as wel as an o-ring around the inside of the comp. cover to keep the gas from leaking out of the turbo. none of those have the mods needed for a drawthrough setup.
i have ran boosted nikki carbs with good results

 

Thanks for the response. I will look into that, do any turbos come with the o-ring you mentioned? ?Can that be added easily to turbo with a carbon compressor seal? Any additional recommendations or insight on how to find the appropriate turbo would be greatly appreciated.

 

Is the 4 piece carbon seal in the picture what is needed to be used on a drawthrough set up? These seals can be fitted to one of the turbos in the links in the original post can't they?
