Exclamation TA51 advice... DON'T DO IT!!

I just spent saturday drag racing. I thought this was a good drag turbo, I knew it was too big for road racing. Well, its too big for drag... At least, unless you have a Pport and are boosting 30 psi. Best 60' time = 2.6 seconds. Full boost (15 psi) = 6000+ rpm. Its embarrasing when your 420 RWHP car is getting beat by anything with any turbo. Luckily, I found someone who can USE this beast, and I'm getting a new 60-1 out of it! Oh and I was only getting 1'st and sometimes 2'nd gear because of some new issue, so I won't be telling my times hehe

Not sure how big your ports are but you will need ports to wake that turbo up. This turbo show run real well once you get it up in the big boost area.
Before you get ride of it just disconnect your exhaust within 3ft of the turbo and unleash your beast.

The bottom line is that with this turbo, 15 psi that I run is so far out of its compressor efficiency range that it is basically a big heat sink. On a REW maybe you could make it work, but I'm sure there is a better option. Remember it is a game of compromises...
My street port is as big as I would want on a street car. My exhaust is wide open, there is no backpressure.
NOS is just one more system to deal with. Plus it is not advisable to squeeze below 3000 rpm, so it kinda defeats that purpose.
I suggest you all learn to read compressor maps so you can make an educated choice when you buy a turbo, Bigger is not necessarily better.

For the 60-1, 15psi puts you very nicely in the turbos efficeny range. Theres a guy in Texas that put out 420 to the rear wheels on a ported TII with a haltec e6k at around 15psi. I'm getting the 60-1 or maybe even the 62-1 turbo for my fd. By the way, how do you even drive on the streets on such a big turbo. Will

Look real close at the 60-1 map vs. the 62-1 map. 62-1 is not that great. If you want bigger than 60-1 try a T66. Check it out...

Basically, on the street, I have a kitten for a car below 4000 rpm and a cheetah above 5000 rpm. Its really not too effective unless you a) have a problem with spinning while turning or b) only like to freeway race...

I don't see the t60-1 being big enough. I think it will do 590wrhp. but still just alittle small. a t-66 would be a good setup. I am going with the t51r kai with a partial Pport. but yeah just through some NOS on what you got and then you can set it to shut off when the boost comes on. It is another system, but your turbo will love it.

The way I understand it, 13BT's are good for about 450 hp. I could squeeze from 3000-5000 and boost from 5500-8000 with this turbo that is not in its efficiency range (TA51) and make a complicated but wide 400hp powerband. OR, I could get a 60-1 and make the same power with the same powerband, less complicated, and more efficient. Hmmm....

The 60-1 will peak at about 400 rwhp so if you want more than that go for the T66.

How exactly does one have a PARTIAL Pport? I've never heard of a partial hole before.

I feel bulshitted. I just removed my turbo and spec'd it, and it turns out that is it a T-66. Even so, it is still too big for 15 psi...

Oh, when i said how do you drive with such a big turbo i was not referring to the 60-1, i was referring to the T66 that you thought was a TA51. I recently heard that the 62-1 is not stable under boost, so i guess its 60-1, i think this turbo is perfect for me. It gives good power and is easily streetable.

No, I bought the car with it on it, and when I was told all the specs that was what he said.

From what I understand, the TA51 is what they use on John Deere turbo diesels.
