T70 Single turbo setup & engine rebuild
#26
Well i after such a long time i finallymade my first couple of feet with the car hahaha.
Clutch was fine, we sorted the problem. It was the pedal that needed adjusting !!!
For some reason the ACT clutchkit might be a little slimmer then original. The pedal had to be readjusted, now it works fine.
Time to start looking for leaks and start testing the car/engine.
Oil cooler had minor leak so i could not drive the car. It was spilling to much oil.
Also Apexi PFC not functional yet. Probably a ground not hookup correctly
Does a small ground on the tranny work?? Is it able to ground there??
That might be the reason all sensors are out of range on my PFC....

I'm expecting good things with this T70 turbo. I'll keep updating once in a while.
Post a picture of your build no problem!! It might give me some ideas about my setup!!
can wait to see it finished

just to give you a little numbers on an s5 tII block with half bridge and t70 turbo. I made 395hp at 17psi @ 5900 rpm. I'm confident that if it would have been round out to 8.5 or 9k, the engine would be putting down a lot more. Kilo was not cool with tuning that high on stock apex seals and no added dowl pins. I'm now taking $1800 and having him put black seals in and while it's out he will be adding dowl pins it as well. We will be tuning to about 25psi after that and he will not hessitate to rev the car all the way up, so numbers will be coming soon. I would say in the next couple of weeks. Your fd block should get even more power.

very f-in sexy HH^ by any chance what wastegate you using?? whats the specs on that t70?? 1.00 hot side?
heres mine: 13b re race port, FD stationary gears, race berings, etc, but im starting her this year though a long 1.5 almost 2yrs i hope i can get to 500hp, but then i started to think about what HH saying on dowel pins and black seals...i dunno we'll see!
hey one question:how you guys running your fuel pumps?? im having trouble understanding if i weld a sump pan to the tank do i still need an in tank pump??

thanks man Mines been a long project as well. I've been through a stock turbo, a no name hybrid, a bnr stage 3, a bnr stage 4, a t61, and now a t70 over the span of 9 years hopefully this one will be fast enough for me. The turbo has a .96 hotside and is sitting on an hks style log manifold (I know not the best manifold but it seems to be working fine). The t70 compressor is just the standard masterpower turbo. I'm using a 40mm TiAl waistgate and it seems like it was big enough to hold the 17psi very well with no creep at all. My fuel setup is an 8 gallon fuel cell with an external bosch 044 fuel pump and a kenne bell boost a pump. I've only got 6AN fuel lines but they don't seem to be restricting anything at the moment (we will see at 25+psi).
Your setup is very nice and with the RE block the motor will be stronger without adding dowl pins even though that would be ideal obviously. The RE block has thicker dowl lands and doesn't have a tendency to crack like on the 13bt blocks. I've seen quite a few people running the t70 with no added dowl pins and be fine, I just happened to bring my car to someone that has alot of experience and someone I respect and if he tells me I need dowl pins and black seals for reliability on this setup I'll bite the bullet and do it. Good luck on your setup! I'd like to know what numbers you hit. Any port work?

With the stock 550cc i'm hoping to see atleast 350whp, that would be nice to play with for a while and check out if everything is working to satisfaction.
Updates on my car:
Made my first meters.... Stupid 19row oil cooler started leaking. It looks warped. Strange that it can't handle even when engine is just idling.
Also my Apexi PFC is probably broken. I've bought it second hand from a Belgium guy on my "dutch rx7" forum. It worked before, but i've opened it up and saw some corrosion. So i need to see it the unit is not damaged. All sensors are highlighted in the Sensor Check screen. PFC does Prime the Fuel pumps, just not doing the other tasks.
I'm going to have it check out.
Car does runs on the stock ECU with all the engine checks etc
Does anyone have any idea what power the T70 with 1.00 a/r and large streetport will make at 12 to 15 psi boost?? All supporting mods are available.
#33
well I can tell you there is another guy that has a second gen with t70 and at 10psi he is running 365hp at 8k or 9k rpm. So I'd figure at 15psi you would be making some good power.
#34
Good to know . First need to fix all the bugs, then i'll tune it a little. Then when it's broken in, i'll have it tuned in England.
#36
rofl, not sure about musclefella but I just shipped kilo my license plate etc... so he can street tune it. I talked to him yesterday and he said it will be done by the end of the week so hopefully we see what the car will do then. I'll keep you up to date.

Alot has happened since my last post. I'll stick to the facts to keep it interested Car fired up nicely first time with basic map on the Apexi PFC. To bad the second hand Apexi had oxidation (Previous owner!!) so it malfunctioned.
Bought a new one and send it to Pip gardner at WGT development in England to make a map for me to drive the car over there. The map sucked big time and was lean as hell. Timing was good just inj map was way off.
Tuned it myself and was able to boost a little bit. Car has about 600miles on it now and sounds incredible. It feels very powerfull at 4 to 5 psi boost. Rev limiter is at 5000rpm till i go to England and have it tuned by Pip. Oil temps are good, watertemps are good, oil pressure is good, fuel pressure also
He has already tuned my friends 20b FD and that makes about 550bhp at 14psi boost on stock turbo's. So i hope to see at least 450whp at 15psi boost.
Now working on custom headlights for my car and preparing it for the trip to England. Have to make a new Turbo flange for the downpipe, cause there is a leak there. Also a small oil leak near the oilpan, can't seem to find it. Now running on 1 walbro, need to rig the other one so they both run. Small adjustment and placing a relais and it should work.
I will update my cardomain site and will also post a vid real soon. For now finally driving the car is the best Christmas present i've ever build myself .

Hey Speedworks, yes that would be great. i've already found another sollution. The Projector lights used on bikes can also be used if they have "Echeck brand". That would mean that the autorities find those light good for use on the streets and are legalised.
They are much less expensive then the Hella's. But i'll still look into the Hella's part numbers as well thanks.
The BDC map you gave me wasn't good with my setup, so i had it shipped to Pip. But his map was only partially good. I redid the whole injector map and the car runs awesome now. Preparing it for the trip to England and have it fine tuned.
Hope to see you soon again man, it's been a while!!
Cool!! What setup are you running? How much power did you make?
I'll be going to England end januari 2009 to see what my baby can do. It feels very potent and i'm expecting nice power. I will turn boost down to just 10 psi to keep relaiability. But the engine needs to be able to handle 20 psi runs once in a while

Just thought I would chime in here. I'm also running the MP T70 w/ .96 ceramic hotside. I have a large street ported engine. I don't have any numbers cause I'm doing all the tuning myself on the street, but the maps took quite a bit more fuel then my old t61.
Tuning is done with PFC/dattalogit and LC1 wideband.
The spool up is noticeably laggier with the t70, but that's to be expected from the larger turbo and going from a .84 to .96 housing. I've tuned up to 11 psi so far, and have a water injection kit that's going in, at which point I'll tune up over 20 psi.
Curious what kind of spool is everyone else seeing with the MP T70? I'm seeing like 10 psi around 4k or so in 3rd gear. It might be higher once i raise the boost. I haven't driven the car much or fine tuned it but I don't think first gear makes very much boost, it's pretty much over before the turbo is really spooled. Trying to get the spool lower w/ tuning. My t61 would get full boost (15psi) around 3600 rpm, so i'm def feeling the lag.

It would work if you have a Q trim though. You need a better turbo manifold and a bigger downpipe. Engine condition makes the bigger difference though.

My engine is fresh. Considering I'm not a fan of the newly induced lag, I don't think I would be happy going with a Q trim or a larger housing unless it's divided. My manifold is a ss tubular manifold. I think it flows well. I could go with a 3.5 or 4" downpipe but not really sure how much that would help the spool, would probably help on the top end more.

Hey man how are you doing?
I was smelling a little bit of fuel so i took off the UIM to check out my customized stock primairy rail. Luckily i did cause the rail was loose. After inspecting further the threads were also bad, where the banjo's hook onto.
Fixed that yesterday and reinstalled it. On the Upper intake manifold a vacuum line came of. The car felt a little less response and it took a little more throttle to get the same result as before. Also the rubber gasket between intake and throttle valve was installed wrong. So had boost leak there as well.
Tested the car with these problems with a friend of mine and have good results. No smoke, no smell, good engine sound. No im fixing them and getting ready to go have it tuned in England.
I hope we've build it well, cause i'm going to have it tuned to about 20psi without water injection etc etc. Just straight boost. When done i'll turn down boost to 10 ->12 psi daily and 15 psi highboost. I just need that edge of 20psi when i want to. Hope the engine will hold .
How's your car getting along? After my tune i do plan to come over again, but car needs to be perfect.
