Question T3 vs. T4

I have a GT35r T3 1.06 right now...I currently need a new turbo. If I switched to GT35r T4 .82 from rx7store...would I need a new exhaust manifold? I tried searching but couldn't necessarily find the answer to my question...I would call rx7store but they are closed on the weekends. All help would be greatly appreciated.

If anybody has a picture comparison of a T3 vs a T4 that would also help...I'm trying to understand the difference in size...I'm a visual person when it comes to turbo comparisons.

yes you would need a new manifold, the bolt pattern is different

Ok, thanks for the help. I've found a couple of places that sell T4 flanges as well as V band flanges. I already have a friend who can weld exceptionally...I think I might go that route. My other question is would I still be around the same hp range when I switch over or is T4 .82 alot better then T3 1.06? I know I'll have to get retuned, I'm just curious as to how it'll affect my hp and spool?

Get an A-spec GT35R T4. They have the only REAL T4 hotside for the 35R. I believe they have exclusive rights to it. All the others are just T3 hotsides with a T4 flange welded on, not the same thing.

exclusive rights??? for some reason i don't think garrett would limit themselves like that...

your .82 T4 will probably spool significantly quicker than your T3 1.06, not sure about the top end though

Hmm....ok. I need to call a-spec to find out for sure...I don't want to downgrade in flow...I know the T3 chokes it up top but would the .82 T4 be better then the 1.06 T3 in top end?

the 1.06 will be better on the top but the .82 should get you there fast as far as spool time

WRONG The 1.06 is a T3 and the .82 is a T4. I think he'll find that a A-Spec divided mani and divided T4 turbine will spool almost if not just as fast as the T3 AND have more top end. The T4 footprinted turbines floating around that are not from A-Spec are not true t4 turbines internally and offer no advantages over the standard T3 turbines unless you already have a T4 manifold laying around.

You can actually get an adapter that bolts on a T3/T4 to a T3/T4 manifold.. so that way you wouldnt hafta do welding and what not. but its up to u... oh and it will make your turbo stand up and out a little further... its wat i did.. good luck anyway..
