Stepping up to a GT42

My older T88 is maxed and in the need of an oil seal and for the HP that I want to make I decided to step up to a GT42 (non ball bearing) rather than rebuild the T88. I've searched and not that many forum members are actually running this setup. Does anyone have any quarter mile info with a GT42 on an FD?

Thanks,

Anthony

Good thing you don't have blond hair, nobody could tell us apart
You may want to consider a Borg Warner S400. Dee can probably hook you with that.

I'm on a budget with the car and the price was almost doubled so I opted for the Gt42. The G42 is like $1000 and the ball bearing version is like 1900. Not sure on the spooling difference....

with a big turbo you just need a little 2 step action and you shouldn't have a problem off the line

I kinda meant do you think its the turbo or the longer 1st gear? There have to be others running this turbo on the 1/4 mile to get more info on the 60fts you can get out of them?

It will not fit with the current manifold but my friend made an extension that bolts in between the turbo and the greddy manifold to make it fit perfectly. I just have to redo the intercooler piping and the downpipe. I'll post some pics of the adapter. Also, I am going to send out the adapter and the manifold to a local machine shop and have them fabricate a new manifold for FD's (when I have some time).

If J-Rat can do a 10.7 on a T60-1, I am sure you can do a 9 second run on a GT42.

I doubt its either. Just need more time getting things worked out. Takes a long time just get it all to come togeather. Getting the power is the easy part. Many are running much larger turbo's than I do and have issue's with putting the power down. Just a matter of trial and error.

Rat was also running 25+psi and a ton of methanol. That makes a difference.

Az,

Nice times on 14psi, I assume that's with the GT42? Also, did you run the car with the 562HP down the track yet?

Thanks,

Anthony

Anthony, I'm interested to know what you think once you get a new turbo on there. I'm also looking to upgrade.

Thanks, zinx

I don't know why he ran so much boost... that thing blew hot air after like 22ish psi....

But yeah.. you should at least do a 20psi run =)
