Pressure Sensor/transducer

instrumentation is key for our high output per displacement rotaries and the need for pressure sensors/tranducers is near the top of the list...

fuel pressure
AI system pressure
oil pressure
exhaust back pressure

Honeywell has made the majority of the pressure sensors that are often rebadged. recently Honeywell introduced a new line with the name PX2.

i am using them on my car. i have received a lot of PMs asking for the correct model so i thought it would be good to supply the info because there are many models and room for opportunities for errors. such as the error i made by ending up w absolute pressure rather than gauge.

here's the best link as to info and the order key:

http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsh...VI_05Jan12.pdf

assuming you have a 1/8 NPT port, want to read gauge pressure rather than absolute, need no more than 150 psi and want it reported in 1-5 V...........

your sensor is:

PX2AN2XX150PSAAX

Howard,

From my experience, it's very interesting to take pressure and temperature (K type thermocouple like an EGT gauge) at multiple points on the intake air path. For example, you can calculate intercooler efficiency if you have enough measurement points. It's pretty interesting to compare compressor outlet temperature to temperature right in the TB elbow. I've seen some turbos hit almost 200C outlet temperature when pushed to their limits, especially when approaching surge under full load.

One thing that's difficult is properly plotting along the compressor map without some kind of mass flow meter. Otherwise we have to do the common "rotary airflow" rule of thumb calculations. A mass airflow meter is difficult to install and has all sorts of issues but with a fuel flow meter you can back calculate airflow when your know AFR.

here is a run off the spring around 14 psi at 45% throttle.... the bottom shows 3 pressure plots, AI system pressure (note it ramps at 3:22), oil pressure and fuel pressure. since they are absolute you need to deduct 14.7.

net:

Fuel pressure 56.2
Oil Pressure 105.9
AI pressure 123.1

the next window from the bottom is turbo outlet charge Temperature and IAT at the OE position. outlet temp seems to build cumulatively since boost is fairly constant once spring equilibrium is reached. note 338 F. IAT into the motor is 118. accurate INSTANT temp data thanks to a type K thermocouple.

i just threw in the AFR V AFR target fyi.

it will be interesting to see what the data looks like at 29 psi.

Howard, is this a feedback thread on what everyone is using? How do those honeywell sensors go pricing wise?

I went with these for my fuel and oil pressure sensors:
Defi Pressure Sensor

The ones i bought were GReddy items and were a touch cheaper but they are the exact same sensor. The plugs also match the factory items from mazda which is a nice touch too

i also grabbed one of these for the MAP sensor so they all match
Trust GReddy E-Manage 3.0bar Boost Pressure Sensor

here is a shot of my logging with these sensors:

So the question now is, where can we buy this pressure transducer (PX2AN2XX150PSAAX)?

I recently had a pressure transducer fail so I need a new one. Checking out the data sheet for this one it looks absolutely perfect. Only problem is I cant find it for sale anywhere. The closest one I can find is the absolute pressure version (PX2AN2XX150PAAAX).

I ended up going with the Auberins.com sensor.

PX2AN2XX150PSAAX does not seem to be listed as an option in the Honeywell catalog:

the Innovate sensor looks good. thanks for the link.

i did just check w AlliedElectronics. Honeywell is currently only selling them in 40 lots. i am going to email AlliedE in hopes of selling them the idea that there is significant demand. they were not opposed to stocking a 40 unit order if they are convinced they will sell.

onlinecomponents.com shows that they can get them with minimum orders of 10.

PX2AN2XX150PSAAX Honeywell | Buy PX2AN2XX150PSAAX | Onlinecomponents.com

We could organzie a group buy on them. I need at least one to log my fuel pressure and would consider picking up a second to use somewhere else or just to have an extra.

Some of the AEM sensors look identical to that sensor and probably rebadged Honeywells...

Chris Ludwig supplied me with my AEM sensors for my Haltech PS2000.
