Owners with open Wastegate

i have been searching around and i couldnt find video/audio of 7s with an open wastegate.. i just love hearing it and i want moree.. i did search but couldn't find any. so if you have your videos/audios of it inside and outside the car (driving not idling) that would be great.

Search for afgmoto1978 (Adam)

he is running a 60mm synapse engineering wastegate dumping to atmo.

He posted various videos.

One of the videos is of us thrashing palomar mountain.

It cost us an oil cooler, but getting all four wheels off the ground after launching off a cattle grate does that to a FD... ^_^

FYI - Synapse doesn't make a 60mm wastegate, only 50mm and below. The 50mm does flow like a conventional 60mm.

had an HKS dumped straight to atmosphere. It's cool for a while but then it gets old.

Ya, it's cool for a bit but gets very old. When my rebuild is done, I'm having mine routed into the DP.

My car is a DD and I can't deal with it anymore.

it does sound insane but also really over mine now, if you stomp it anywhere that's not highway its just silly how loud it is. Also when my profecB is on it makes all funny noises while it plays with the wastegate...LOUDsoftLOUD. When the controller is off then its not so bad but still ridiculous at WOT. Car alarms going off everywhere after a burnout...ears where bleeding, minds were blown

When I went single my kit included a vented wastegate. I hate it for several reasons.

1) As you know here in california the police actively enforce smog and noise violations. A loud car = automatic tickets. So I can't WOT in peace due to the fact if there is a cop within a 1/2 mile he will hear it, and thus find the obvious culprit. Prior to having a vented wastegate I WOT at least once per trip. Freeway entrance, close to my house, under a bridge, ect and I did it out of pure joy. After the venting I think about it 2-3 times before hitting it. The majority of times the reason I do it is to get the revs up to clean the carbon off the housings. Certainly killed the fun thats for sure...

2) Its rather obnoxious to tell you the truth. Let's say you are at light and you just want to feel the power for quick second... You hit it and YOU LET THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD YOU'RE A JACKASS, not only because you're braking the speed law but being so damn loud you end up disturbing everyone and that makes you a jackass x2.

3) Now this is only a theory but I think highway drone went up dramatically as sound can easily escape from the wastegate vent. I am plumbing mine to the DP soon so I'll know the answer. If it's either the wastegate or the single turbo. My exhaust setup is a resonated MP and racing beat duals which equals to a rather quiet car and drone free, at least it was prior to going single.

It's not all negative though... There are some aspects that I do like:

1) when my mechanic and I went for a final tune drive/test he led me to this desolated cayon run. My job was to read numbers as he abused my ****. It was a very windy road and he hammered all the way throught it. Now hearing all those constant non stop high revs I really got to appreciate the sound of an uncorked rotary. It really sounded like a race car.... just badass. But make sure you keep the damn windows rolled up as it will make your ears bleed.

2) When people **** you off on the road you can scare the **** out them... That's rather fun

3) It gives a little bit more peak HP, but at the same time plumbing it back in distributes that peak HP to the midband which is more fun for the street.

In a couple of weeks I'm getting a retune check (on that same canyon) while I'm still vented. I'll see if I can film it so I can post it up for you here.

So I think an owg isn't that bad an idea. I would like to drive in a 7 with a res mid and rb duels, just to make sure I like it

the wastegate will crack under part throttle depending on how the boost controller is set up.

When I dyno'd my open wastegate setup I came in wearing earplugs. I offered some to the dyno operators and they were like "nah we're good." All the employees would walk out of the shop when I did my pulls (except the guy who operated the dyno brake for me) because of the noise.

I remember I was driving some backroads with a friend who had a V6 Eclipse at the time with a catted 2.5" HKS exhaust and a 75 shot of nitrous. I was behind him. We both got on it and he couldn't hear his own exhaust.

The first time I heard an FD with an open wastegate I was driving my nonturbo FC with dual Apex'i N1. The FD flew past me at WOT and I couldn't hear my own exhaust.

sorry, I meant to hit the 5 button on my iPhone.

I have fat thumbs...

In the event of an emergency, I'd dial Pizza Hut instead of 911

I have noticed that my vented wastegate is quiter than most, it is a 50mm and I think it is the result of putting a dump tube on it. The tube is made of thick aluminum piping and it seems to resonate the sound.
