New GT40R Dyno numbers!

LOL, I have had 2 motors in here that had no exhaust porting and they took a toothbrush to the intake ports.

Well, I have around 600 miles on my motor now. the car feels really responsive. It wants to go straight into boost. i have a pretty healthy port job. A large street port. My vacuum is only 11 in so I do not know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. We will see once I can go into boost and get on a dyno. My LIM and UIM have both been ported as well. If my compression winds up being decent then I should be a good marker for the GT40r. I have the RA seals and they take a while to seat in.
I see a lot of people saying that these big wheels don't become efficient until upward of 20 psi and that is why the dyno results are coming in lower than expected. This seems to be true with some turbos but looking at the compressor map for the gt40r, its sweet spot is around 15-17 psi. How does this add up with these other claims. It would seem that the gt40r would be equally at home at lower boost pressures as well.

Hmmm, I guess I'm disappointed with the numbers. Maybe it has to do with a stock port motor or the turbo's efficiency at under 20psi. I don't buy the .84 hotside being an issue since I made nearly 470 RWHP at 19psi with my .84 hotside. Steve Kan tunned as well.
Anyway, I'm glad I didn't get one.

The compressor map is from atp's website. www.atpturbo.com They have the maps for a lot of the new garret turbos. I am not the best person to analyze a compressor map. Maybe some one who really understands them, and how they apply to our cars bsfc and flow rates, could elaborate on this map. Things like where it is efficient and at what psi it comes alive . My limited understanding is that it is not a high psi turbo for making power. This then goes against the whole we need to turn up the boost theory.
Personally my car feels like it is going to be pretty strong. It already seems to have more power capability. I have not really gone into boost but the car just feels like it wants to open up. The turbo sounds awesome when it spools up. It sounds like a jet and the car feels very light on throttle. My old rx6b did not feel this way. It made 400 at 15 psi but felt heavy on throttle. Like I had to push the throttle down more to get the car to accelerate when at higher speeds. Boost would come on very early but the car seemed kind of flat up top like when at highway speeds. This turbo just seems to breath better and wants to stretch its legs more. I can not wait to see what happens when I actually get into some good boost. Down low the car doesn't feel any less drivable than the rx6b.
If the new dyno numbers prove to be better, which they should/better be, then I would have to say that this kit is an all around great choice. If not then I will be scratching my head also. It's just too early to say.

What turbo did you make 470 at 19psi on? Was it ported, I would guess. What port job? I do not know about what is or can be expected but I thought 427 on a stock motor that has ?? miles was damn good. At least for me.. My a/f was still all over down low but was getting lean around the top. Not sure if there is anymore power to be pulled out in its current state.. I compared the dyno sheet to many on the catenet.net/dyno.php site and it looks real close to many t78's and such at the same boost level. By the way who posts these sheets? I went to post mine and it was already on there??
Stephen, David did not get his 800+ he was looking for today. Had the same issues as last time. Once he got to 700 at around 24psi that was it. Turn the boost up and no more power. His turbo is good to 32psi.?? made its the 3 inch down pipe and more tunning needed..
Anyone care to shed some more light on the maps Michael posted (gt40r)?

I thought I just made a post here but oh well... I said from the looks of it on the dyno chart page (catnet.net/dyno.php) my run looked to be comparable to some of the t78 and other comparable singles turbo set ups but I just looked again and found a few that are much better. did not check to see if they were ported motors but needless to say there are much better numbers from other turbos on there then what I made. I am still happy to have a well running 400+ car! Maybe I spent too much but either way I am happy for my accomplishments..

I agree, 427 hp on a stock ported motor is DAMN good. i say the GT40R is a damn good turbo to begin with. get your motor ported, turn the boost up a bit, and 110 octane and your #s should boost up!!! can't wait till i brake my motor in and have steve O. tune it.

theres alot of haters ... thats just human nature... you should be happy you have a car with over 400rwhp! car must be fun
one thing i do noticed in browsing some threads it seems that theres more people with the T78/T88/T51RKai that cant even get over 375-400rwhp while i think for the small amount of people who have the GT40R all of them have 400+RWHP! interesting ratio............

As poweraxel stated, it is a very good accomplishment. I do not feel that any of the people who have dynoed so far should be upset with their #'s. There are so many factors and motor health/port work is one of them. I just feel that 400 hp at 1 bar is a pretty well established benchmark. Many oldschool and new turbos are capable of this. For example, t04s,t04e,t78,60-1,rx6,62-1,t-66,ts04,t04r, and others. Even the 40r's smaller brother gt35r has many dynos at 400. If i am correct, all of those turbos have been able to hit 400 at 14-15psi. Some are at their limits while other have more to go but all have done it.
It is one thing to get more power by turning up the boost, but that is doable to a certain extent with any of the turbos. What is important is how it performs at the same target psi compared to others. Some say then that it is more efficient at higher boost and doesn't like anything under 20 psi. This may be the case, but the compressor map I posted hints otherwise I feel. Like I said, there are so may variables that the only real way to know is to strap them on the same car one after another and dyno them. Until that point, we have to rely on averages coming from different vehicles. It would be nice to get the holy grail of dyno pulls though
This is what I expect for myself. Since my last turbo,rx6b, hit 400 at 14.5 psi. I want to see at least this. 420 would be better with around 490 at 20 psi. I will be running water/methanol injection for the higher psi pulls, so it will be on pump gas. I will start it around 10 psi but will do a couple of 14 psi pulls with it off for some baseline numbers for everyone. It will just be awhile.
I am sure that sean would also like to see some really kick *** numbers coming out and I hope I can do it. We also haven't seen any real world numbers for the r85. This could end up being the same. There is no controlled environment. I imagine there are some people looking to buy one or the other and watching for results. I will try to get mine done as soon as possible for everyone.

I only meant to say that I have yet to see a dyno from anyone that makes me think this turbo is any better than any other turbo on the market. 400RWHP is no small feat for sure, especially with these cars. I just haven't seen what I was hoping to see, that's all.

wow what a great post that has nothing to do with the original poster being happy that he got 427rwhp out of a stock ported engine.. did the original poster ask you if your glad that you didnt buy the same turbo he had?
your comments of "hating" on a fellow RX-7 owner makes you look like a troll.. you should at least be happy for the guy. all of us RX-7 owners need to stop critisizing each other be it if he has a T-78,T-88,T51Rkai,GT40R,GT35R,R85 or whatever...
whats the comparison between your turbo set-up and PORTED motor to his turbo set-up with the original engine?

its all good. I take no offense. There will always be other cars and turbos (custom or not) making more power. Thats never ending...Porting, fuel systems, IC systems, ignition set ups and tunning make all the differance.
Is there someone that has made 427 or greater on a stock port motor with the gt35r or 35/40?? Just wondering..

Didnt ErnieT make around 450 on stock ports a long time ago when he first started getting Demetrious to tune for him? Not that it really matters. Any solid rx7 making over 400rwhp is a feat and a fun car to drive and have fun with.
EDIT - I found it. He made 474rwhp on a Mazda reman with Dee tuning it. Anyway, here is the info, you should pm him and see if he has the sheet to put on your site.

His post is about 5 from the top.

I was replying to Wargasms post that said.....
"I can't find any car with confirmed-stock-ports that makes more peak hp than sk8world's."
