New Greddy Profec E-01 boost controller - WOW!
Check it out -
http://www.trust-power.com/e-01/index.html
You can use http://world.altavista.com to translate.
Greddy's boost controller lineup has really lagged - the last new boost controller was the blue-case Profec B, which is excellent, but it's getting dated.
The new Profect E-01 has a large LCD dot-matrix type screen and looks like, information-wise, it holds its own with the AVC-R. Large gauges on-screen, peak hold, datalogs, etc.
Some of the cool new features -
- Compatible with SD memory cards - you can save your datalogs and boost control setups to an SD memory card, and easily swap between programs.
- Works with the Greddy E-manage - this is REALLY cool. You can hook it directly to the E-manage to program and control the E-manage in lieu of a laptop. You can also save E-manage programs to the memory card.
- Handheld remote control - kinda like a car stereo remote.
- Works with Greddy gauges - you can input your electronic gauge inputs to the E-01 for datalogging.
- Full range of boost control features - RPM-based settings, scramble boost, duty cycle and sharpness, etc.
This thing is REALLY slick - it's a revolution in car electronics. It's a single source for boost control, datalogging, and information.
Retail price in Japan is 67,000 yen, which is around $600 or so. Again, that's RETAIL - I would imagine a US street price of $500.
I have NO idea when this will be available in the US - it JUST came out in Japan at the beginning of this month.
Anyhow, I'm really stoked about it - looks like my AVC-R might have to go up for sale when this puppy hits the streets!

It looks cool but is it really necessary? It just seems like another gadget to me. I'd rather make a manual one in conjunction with a pop off valve and then use the extra cash to make others useful things like: DIY water/alcohol kit or propane injuection kit.

I still prefer the AVC-R. I think you wouldn't want a boost controller unless you had an after market ECU system, in which case your most likely to already have peak hold, data logging and other functions on and over what the E-01 provides. The controller seems like another gadget I'm gonna be searching round the back for after pulling away from the lights. That controller and my stereo remote are gonna be having babies back there
The screen is not shaped to fit within the dash especially well, unlike the AVC-R, and I'm not gonna be screwing holes on the top of the dash just to stick something in the way of the road.
Just my opinion, but I think it provides functionality you probably already have with an ECU. The SD Card abilities are good tho! I myself won't be changing the AVC-R for one of these.

But, with an aftermarket ECU, most of the peak/hold/warning/datalogging functions are only available with the handset (PowerFC) or laptop. It's not something you can keep your eye on while driving, or have it alert you. I believe, from what I translated, you can program alerts and beep tones for warning conditions - pretty slick.
Yeah, the size of the screen is a little awkward, but it's hard to tell exactly what the size is. But, you get better screen real estate in the deal.
The remote will probably stay more handy due to the fact that you'd have to use it - a car stereo you're more likely to just use the buttons on the stereo. I never figured out the reason for a car stereo remote - maybe for use by back seat passengers or something.
Since I already have an E-manage, that's the selling point for me. I'm really impressed by the idea of having aftermarket electronics that intelligently work together - definitely a new idea in the industry. Not to mention all my gauges are Greddy gauges - 4 of which are electronic/peak hold gauges.
Sorry, not selling the AVC-R until this sucker hits the US shores .

My Sony headunit has no controls on it. The remote is the only way to control
From the looks of it, there is no colour on the LCD so watching DVD's on it may be a problem
There are some nice functions on the device, and as you say dcfc3s, it will integrate with your existing hardware quite well, which is a good reason to purchase. As for me....

Yeah, but a manual boost controller doesn' t have datalogging, peak hold, multiple boost settings, RPM-based boost settings...
