MSD and distributor problems.
Somebody please help me make sense of my mess!
I have a 89 that has and earlier model 13b installed and I got it cheep because it wouldn't run. I put a carburator on it and a MSD setup with a distributer. I made the mistake and didn't do my research and bought a used MSD setup.... now it will not run right. The setup is a distributer with a 6AL and 6A with 2 Blaster 3 coils. the 6AL runs leading and the 6A runs trailing. I have the boxes hooked up to the magnitic pickup in the distributer with no ignitor. the coil then goes into the cap and works like a normal stock setup. the problem is my trailing timing is off and the spark is having to jump inside the cap to get to the plugs.
Questions:
#1. should the wires for the msd box and the wires in the dist. be hooked up green to green and red to red? I've heard two different things on this.
#2. do i need the ignitor on the side of the dist?
#3. Will this setup work as is?
Should i just go to a stock setup on the trailing side and direct fire for the leading? I need to fix this with little or no money.
MONEYPIT.
