Manifold for GT3540.
Hey guys,
I'm think of putting together my own single turbo kit and would really like some input. I'm thinking of going with the HKS cast manifold, I know that it has T04 footprint, but I would weld a T3 flange on it. The reason is that this would avoid cracking that may occur with header type manifold. Reliable power is what I'm looking for.
I'm planning on using the GT3540 turbo with a 40mm Tial wastegate.

Not trying to be a dick, I'm just asking. Why would you go to all the trouble of doing this and then possibly run into fitment issues when you can already buy the whole kit with an equal length manifold as well from the guys at A-Spec. Again not criticizing just asking.

Sub 3K is starting to get within reason. I just recall offhand seeing a kit like that priced over 3K.

I paid over 3k for mine. I feel it was money well spent when you consider the work and craftsmanship that went into producing the kit. Not to mention that Sean gives people more options for the kit as time passes (equal length manifold, v-band option downpipe) But then again that may just me my opinion because I have the kit.

Well., I've put togehter my own 60-1 tubro setup before, and thought that it'd be fun to do another one. The ideal of spending over 3K for one doen't sit well with me.
It's really not that hard to piece it together. I have friends that do welding, so they can do the piping for me. I'm just worried that the welded manifold might break, like my last one did. Yes, it was a thick wall SS. Anyone using the A-spec GT3540 with a crack manifold?

put the 40R on the manifold instead ... I think it will fit. Cast iron is very hard to weld (what my welding friends always say) ... it can be done but is difficult.

TEC sells a t3/t4 adapter flange. I've been thinking of going the same route.

I've got a picture of the new design but I can't attach it. Would someone like to post it for me if possible so that it can be explained how the design is inefficient?

I tried searching, but it looks like that thread disappeared.
Check out Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost" book - description for wastegate path design is clearly describe there.
The first turbo exhaust manifold I saw was the one that came out 90-degrees out from the rest of the manifold and then another bend backwards toward the WG.
I forgot the second design, but I think it was the one which the WG pipe came out from the "back" of the manifold?
