I got a single turbo 93 with an open wastegate and at idle the car is so quiet all you hear is the fuel pump. the car is actually very quiet under about 4k until the wastegate opens then its all hell breaking loose but thats my favorite part.. If I keep it under 4k the car is not loud at all. no complaints here.

In those prior posts i said "Borla XR1 muffler canister" because i see the earlier posts mention this kind of muffler canister will reduce the noise a lots. In fact, i m thinking about Borla products for my FD.

In your last post, do you mean use the borla XR1 canister muffler as a midpipe, and then keep my normal(stock) catback (Stock muffler) ??? At that point, it will reduce the noise problem ???

You want a muffler, not a muffler cannister (which is just the outside of a muffler). You want a muffler. Forget about the word 'cannister'.

You want to replace your midpipe with a pipe that has a muffler in it. You can buy a midpipe with a muffler in it from Pettit, or you can buy a muffler and have it welded into your existing midpipe.

There are 3 parts to the exhaust system:
1) downpipe / precat
2) midpipe / muffled midpipe / cat
3) cat-back a.k.a. muffler
You will be changing part #2 and leaving the other parts the same.

If you have a plain midpipe now, switching to a muffled midpipe (buy one OR put a muffler in your midpipe) will quiet things down. Perhaps significantly.

I can't be any more clear than that.

I have Pettit's s.s. resonated MP and it's totally useless. I'm awaiting delivery of RX7 Store's Magnaflow muffler MP. Badass7 says it significantly calmed down his T60-1 with open WG. I'm hoping it will do the same for my T66 w/ open WG and GReddy EVO cat-back.

i think if you chose a quieter cat-back, say a GReddy SP(Apexi' is generally harsh and loud) and insert some sort of muffler in the midpipe, like the XR-1...it should quiet things down and give a deeper tone.

i have a bridgeport T51 with the 4" HKS racing exhaust...so i'm just screwed

The XR-1 is a joke compared to a magnaflow muffler. Go with a magnaflow in the midpipe if you want to quiet your car down

agreed. I have had both the XR1 in my midpipe and the magnaflow midpipe from the RX7 store and all else being constant, the Magnaflow midpipe from RX7store is much much quieter

Stock cat-back w/ straight M/P maybe.....turbos such as yours do not like back pressure so don't get too restrictive.

Yes, that's the one with the Magnaflow muffler from rx7store.net. It sounds like a good choice.

ditto i used the pettit resonated and it was just as loud as my straight through pipe. i switched to a 3inch magnaflow (not rx7 store i didnt even know they made one) and its so much better. i was so used to it being super loud that i actually thought my car was quiet as stock when i installed it. lol

I want to run a cat, too, (I've got one now and it is SO much less smelly than my old midpipe setup) but HF cats don't do a whole lot of muffling. Does anyone have a cat AND and small muffler (Magnaflow makes a 6" shorty muffler that might fit)? I also found a Magnaflow (Cars Sound) cat that has a built-in resonator that looks interesting: http://www.car-sound.com/catalog/universal/944.aspx (though I am not sure it would fit with the 7" height).

Installed RX7 Store Magnaflow M/P today...

.....and it's great! I'm very pleased with the result. Running an open wastegated T66 on a m/p and then a Pettit pipe for years was gettin' to be just too much.

Before Magnaflow > wife hated car. After Magnaflow > wife doesn't hate car as much. I think she'll agree to start taking the 7 instead of her damned 2003 Audi A6 2.7T Quattro everytime we go out.

The magnaflow resonator, makes the car sound so much better. It is actually bearable to drive the car. Although it is just *** loud when you want it to be. No performance loss noted...
