i absolutely love my tial, i dont think they're ****. the quality is amazing in my opinion. the type of car its used on makes no difference.

as for compressor surge, well... you can just hear it. instead of the whoosh, sound when you let off the gas, it sounds, uh, kinda hard to explain, but it sounds like compressed air coming back through the blades of the turbo, cause thats what it is. more like a bunch of woosh's getting quieter, and shorter til they're gone. you should know it when you hear it.

If anybody is still trying to figure out which BOV spring to use, NOT waste gate spring, just look at you vacuum at idle and divide it in half and that is the size spring you need. In other words if you have 14" of vacuum you use the 7lb spring, 18" of vacuum then the 9lb spring and so on.

This is per TiAL.

is the sound a Zzzzzzzzzzzz sound? if so i think thats what killed my stockers! i could hear some horible noise after i put my apex-i intake on and it was a ZZZzzzzzzz noise, then a couple weeks later the seals went out while i was getting on it and started dumping oil in the exhaust!

kinda late but gonna give it a shot.

i been reading up allot on the tial bov. since i purchased one late in 2004 in a group buy and just recently installed it. well here's my problem its very similar to CARX7 , i also have my bov open up when i hook up the vaccum line but it also shuts of my engine . i will lok at how much vaccum im pulling at idle . anyone have any idea as to why this would happen . any info is greatly appreciated . i dont mean to jump on someone else's thread but im having the same problem and would love any help at this point

did you say that your engine is shutting off when the BOV opens at idle? It looked like you made a typo, but I would just like to make sure. I love my Tial BOV and wouldn't change it for anything. I'm running the soft spring too by the way.

the sound of compressor surge is more like a repetative shh sound. (shh like you're telling someone to be quite) starts loud (as there's more pressure/air coming back through the blades) and gets quieter as the pressurized air diffuses, more like SHH SHh Shh shh. not really a zzzzzzzzz as far as i know. this was on my T-66 though, not sure what it'd sound like on the twins.

Well yes while the engine is at idle , as soon as i go to connect the vacumm for the bov, the vacumm opens the bov stalling the engine . no blowoff sound it just opens from vaccum then engine dies . i have the 7lb spring but i may need a stronger one . what do you think

Even at idle there is some pressure in the intake track before the throttle body.
This pressure does affect the idle settings.

The problem is that your BOV default spring pressure is too low and is being over driven by idle vacuum. Increase the spring pressure until the BOV stays closed at at idle or slightly higher vacuum.

Thank you very much Cewrx71 . i decided to browse the Tial website and came across a vaccum to spring chart where it tells you what spring you need acording to the amount of vaccum on the boost guage. im hoping this will solve my issue .

Seems odd that that would be the problem. My car will run just fine with the TB open to air with no intake tract connected. And my TiAL BOV is open at idle, with air blowing out. What's your BOV vacuum source? Not T-ing off the MAP sensor are you?

adax, you have a speed-density fuel injection system so it will stay running (even if you remove an IC pipe). With mass-air systems, any leak in the intake tract will severely alter the mixture, stalling the car if the leak is large enough.

My bad, I guess I should have started at the beginning of this thread to see what type of car we were dealing with.

bov spring

thanks max and thanks adax , yes any leaks greatly affects the turboII engine. after hooking up the bov and witnessing repetitvie stalling i decided to fix the cracked vacumm hoses and vaccum caps missing at the back of the intake manifold.my vacumm at idle went from 14-15 to 20-22 at idle, its runnin solid now but still stall when i hook up the bov so ive decided to see if i can come across a 11-12 lb spring for the bov . has anyone gone to Tial and traded up from a 7lb to 12 lb and was it an even trade or what was price difference for spring+installation
thank you
Jose

I traded from a 11-12 down to a 7. I emailed them, shipped the spring off, and they sent me the one I needed for free. I was very pleased with their customer service. Great company IMO.

I took mine apart and just sent in the spring. It took me a whole 3 mintues to take the BOV apart. Just make sure you secure the two halfs of the BOV so it doesn't pull a jack in the box on you when you get the last allen head screw out.
