info needed!

ok, i've tried searches and everything, but i'm not seeing anything that helps me out.

one of my turbos is leaking, so i'm thinking of going single. what i can't find out, however, is if i have to do anything else. right now my car is bone-stock with the exception of an intake.

if i go single, do i have upgrade my ecu or anything else? if there's a lot more involved than just buying a single conversion kit, then i'll probably just keep it twin and go non-sequential or something.

this car is my daily driver, so reliability is of great importance to me. i'm looking at the GReddy t78 kit for $3600 and the apexi kit for $3350 (both on the rx7store.com). am i crazy, or can i do this without having to upgrade tons of other stuff?

please help!!!

You'll definitely need to upgrade the fuel system--ECU, bigger injectors, etc. A better intercooler will also be necessary. You'll also want to change the exuast--dp, mp, cat back. You'd probably be looking at another $5000.

so if i stay twins....

ryan (boostd 7) says for what i'm looking for, i'd be better off just getting both turbos rebuilt or possibly upgraded. if i keep it twins, which is probably the way i'm going, and want to run it non-sequential, do i still have to deal with all the other stuff? i'm assuming yes....

It all depends on what your target RWHP is. For 330 rwhp you'll need all the basic stuff to get there filter, exhaust, boost, intercooler, ecu upgrade which add up to $2-3k, plus a fuel pump. Beyond that you'll need bigger injectors, and a computer to control them like the PFC or Haltech - $2k more. But to go past the 330RWHP you'll be pushing the factory turbos to their limit.

The Apexi kit would be a good choice, instead of the T-78 kit. With the T-78 kit you would not be able to get the full potential of it with the stock fuel system. The Apexi unit is smaller and would make good bottom end power and decent top end with you able to retain the stock fuel system (plus upgraded pump).

Pluto (and others imagine) have proved that you can make 400RWHP with the stock fuel system and a single turbo. Although the stock sequentials are great and if you just get your turbos rebuilt you should be happy again.

IMO, keep the stock sequentials, and just get them rebuilt. Don't go non-seq unless something is wrong and you cannot fix it. Unless your car is a track car I do not see the need to go with a single turbo except to just say you have it. The stock sequentials are great with excellent low down power and decent top end.

Good luck.

thanks!

i've pretty much decided to keep it the stock setup and just have em rebuilt. it seems doing any kind of upgrade just turns into a snowball effect. and, as Styk33 stated, the stock setup is still damn nice plus, i can take the money i save and get some wheels or something (or actually pay off some debt....)

what would i do without this forum?????
