How does water injection work?
I've been seeing alot of people talking about water injection in past two weeks. What does that mean. Like where does it get injected, and how does it help.
What benefits does it have and to what extent. By what I read in a few posts you can get more PSI of boost with it.
Anyone care to explain

Water is sprayed into the intake manifold, similar to how fuel is injected. It takes a lot of energy to turn water into steam, so the effect is that the intake air temperature drops significantly.
The water does take up some "room" that could otherwise be used by air/oxygen, so the effect is not free. However, it reduces the chance of detonation, cleans the cumbustion chambers, and cools the intake charge enough to make up for this in most instances. The only significant downside in my opinion is that you can run out of water. If your car was tuned to run with water injection, you might be in trouble if it runs out.
The Aquamist company makes pumps and systems to do water injection. Check it out:

It is usually just one simple injection nozzle that it easy to plumb into any intake system. It doesn't need to be right at the engine like fuel injectors. It is more like how NOS is sometimes added -- just one injector poked into the intake tract somewhere. You don't need a new manifold.
