Holland VS Aruba 10/9 second car challange

Like the title already said a 10/9 second car challenge.
Hi everyone my cousin and I are debating in a challenge for the 10 low 9 high cars.
He owns a 120y pickup with an sr20 under the hood with about 330whp. Last week he ran in the 1/4mile 10.64 second with slicks tire offcourse

My intentions is to out run him.
So that’s why I’m posting this tread here.
I have a 93 fd3s and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get in the low 10’s.
These are the spec of my car so far.
It’s pretty much stock right now.
The Spec list:
Engine:
- Twin Turbo (standard)
- Aftermarket air intake.
- HKS blow off valve
- Cusco Engine damper
- Knight sport ECU

- Coilovers
- 17 inch Advan model 5 velgen
- aftermarket driftspoiler
- carbon motorkap
- greddy oil temp en boost meter in de A- style

Thnq Enzo,

I’m still open for any suggestions from any other company's with experience in 10 second cars.
I’m looking forward to start this project very soon.
If it’s possible to start end of this month and so on.
So any advice or any other setups would be highly appreciated.

This way I can compare and choose what will fill my needs the best

There's alot of ways of skinning a cat..

I would chose a bit bigger turbo as you don't wanna limit yourself.
Your goal with that turbo setup would be a very difficult task.

You'll be better off with a turbo that would run your goals without pushing too hard..

Also what fuel do you plan to run?
I would highly recommend running E85 if available..
I would also ditch that aeromotive pump for dual bosch 044's..

In the Netherlands we have the v-power 98 octane fuel and e standard one 95 octane fuel
E85 is not really my option.
I prefer to know my options on pump gas v-power 98 and Water/Methanol injection. Or with also race gas.
@ Enzo what bigger turbo are you suggesting ?

Also a question a compression test has been done on my fd.
These are the numbers that came out.
Rotor One is 7.9 # 7.8 # 7.7

Rotor Two is 7.6 # 7.7 # 7.6
Anyone knows if this is good or bad?

Ah, you bought the red one off Jeffrey.

I had that one in consideration, but bought my current black one instead.

I'm going to test both on the 8th of may on a 1/4mile
I will try to get them on tape and put some video's on this this tread.

it would be the before and after of this project.

From my understanding the car is also primarily a street driven car, and a lag is an issue. Personally if a car is driven 90% on the street, I would tend to lean towards a turbo that will work better for this, and therefore will be near its limit at the track.
He also doesn't want an external pump, I did recommend running dual intank pumps. I would also prefer to see the car running a ID2000s. However like you said, many ways to go about this. Slicks is definitely going to be required, and I would at least toss in a rebuilt S4 T2 diff assembly if not a Kaaz. Rear end & diff bushings should also be done.

hey Don,

it's gr8 you posted this thread but you forgot to mention your cousin had a few years head start :d.

as I understand from Don he wants a setup that can run LOW 10 second and still be able to drive the car on the the street correct? so what turbo , the td61 will take you in the 10sec no doubt and be very streetable but what other turbo is a little bit bigger? to4r like turboblown also suggested would be better for Low 10 sec?

who here has a 66mm turbo on there car can post a dyno graph or a time slip?

500 will get you high tens but high 9,low tens as was stated as his goal will not be so easy in a street car. You'll need more hp.

I don't disagree with you.
However with a street car and his stated goals he will need extra hp
With that there will have to be some sort of compromise between lag and hp in order to meet his goal. How important is his goal Vs how important is street driving?

Btw most rotarys are dead below 5k rpm anyway so bigger turbos aren't as bad as you think on the street. Road racing however is a different story.

I would plan for around 575-650hp in order to run high 9's, low 10's at street car weight and limited traction.

Yes I forgot to mention my cousin had a few years head start.
He is now running mid 10’s and is a daily driven car on pump gas.
Stock suspensions but on the other hand his car weights nothing.
My goal is to keep up with him and still be able to drive it on the street whenever I want.
I know for sure he will be getting in the high 9s very soon.
His next step are a sway bar, racing cams and 2step setup.
Here in Holland it’s a bit difficult to do some street racing but sometimes you get an audi or m6, subaru’s, vw r32 maybe a couple of honda’s at your side and wants to race.
That’s when I would want to be able to race against them to.
I do have a Mitsubishi evo 4 for the daily drive and street racing with about 300hp that would do it.
But here in the summer most of the times are a couple of drag racing days and that’s where the power and traction will come in handy.
So my main goal sort of speak is to get in the low 10’s or high 9’s regardless of the make.
Referring to the engine rebuild porting, turbo setup, suspension, Tires(slicks) you name it.
So with the help of you guys I could meet my goals and out run my cousin.
To show him what a rx7 with a rotary is capable off. Lol.

Definitely a safe low 10 sec turbo, there are several forum members doing that around 23-24psi. Highs 20s should touch 9s.

@ Turblown do you suggest for my goals the GT4094r over the T04z?

What is the lag of the GT4094R
Would it be a street friendly turbo?

wel Don

< it's like enzo said "will have to be some sort of compromise between lag and hp in order to meet your goal"

there will be more turbo lag , but you just have to downshift and accelerate. with the gt4094r you will be easy 10 and high 9 when you go high boost with the gt4094r.

turbo blow do you have that in stock?

the big difference between these turbo is the price

to4r $950
to4z $1500
gt4094r being $1700

it's up to you

all of these can get you in the low 10sec , correct me if I'm wrong?

Be better off with the GT4094R over the To4Z. They are extremely close in lag, the 4094R just slightly laggier( its big shaft, and exducer is bigger).
Its streetable. I have one left in stock.

Yes bigger difference is price.

To get to the 9s is what makes or breaks the decision. Lower your ET under 10sec it takes substantial more power. I remember going from 9.4s to 9.2s took 200+hp...

I’m not really worried about the extra cost as long as I reach my goals.
That’s what it’s all about.
I’ve been always in racing cars but never went bellow the 13’s.
So I’ve been saving up and I thinks it’s time to know what it feels to run a 10 second car.

Man this is going to be excited.

I can’t wait.
