The T51 SPL is about 105 lb/min. Its a beast of a turbo for sure. It is expensive and you can get other similar turbos for much cheaper.

I see comparisons to the GT42R, but that's larger than I'd like. What cheaper alternatives are there?

From what I'm gathering, the Kai would me marginally better for my usage of road racing.

AGREED the kai is super laggy, as in you only have 2krpms to play with after the turbo kicks in. unless you raise the rev limiter

Kinda sounds retarted that a stock port motor is made for mid to low rpm power. but you have a turbo for high rpm. IMO doesnt sound like a good combination!

Yeah it will spool but not as good!

Keep in mind guys I was the person who revived this thread. I only did it to get how many lbs per minute is the regular t51r rated...

What kind of power are you looking to make? For road racing, I would use a twin scroll 35R or 40R. Nice power, decent spool. Maybe a Precision 6262 would work good, but those arent available in twin scroll.

500 would be the max range I'd be looking at. Really depends on the power curve.

Sorry, I'm not very good with turbo tuning, can you explain the usage of a twin scroll turbo? My past involves only corollas in na fashion.

"Twin scroll" is the dumbest name for a divided turbine housing. It allows for a quicker spool up. Honestly the T51r is easily not for you if you want 500hp.

Twin scroll is simply a divided turbine housing used with a divided manifold. Keeps exhaust velocity higher and helps spool, but reduces top end power slightly.

For 500whp there are quite a few options, depends on what you want to spend and how your driving style is. Some of the good ones would be GT4088, Precision 6262, T04Z, etc...

Thanks, for the input guys. T04Z would be the dual bearing version of a T04R? I'm confused with all the similarity in names T04Z, T04R, T04E...

Same thing, just different name. HKS has one, and the normal you will hear about is a Garrett P trim turbine matched with a 67mm compressor. Not a bad turbo, but there are better options.

T04E, T04B, T04S... are all terms for compressor housings that relate to the size. You dont need to worry about that stuff until you get really into turbo stuff.
