HKS manifold for 3rd Gen.

Just wanted to know how many 3rd gen. owners built their turbo kit with either the SS or Cast Iron Manifold from HKS. What turbo did you use for your set-up and can you supply pics of the manifolds? I'm looking at a Garrett T3/60-1 turbo and wanted to know if it would fit. Compressor housing is T04S, turbine spec is a T3.

Thanks,

Andrew

The HKS manifolds are for T4's for the FD so they won't bolt up to t3 turbine side turbos. I don't know if the second gen's have a t3 turbine side or not on their HKS manifolds tho.

There are converters so you can run that t3 on a t4 manny but seriously I wouldn't do it. That hotside looks like its the size of my pinky

Yeah widebody2 is right your turbine looks tiny but what ever works best for you.
I have a .96 v-band and it is pretty large.
As far as your manifold I can only say go bigger on turbine and save the trouble
Good Luck

T3 turbine would be too small , you should look at a T4 based turbine with a p or Q trim turbine wheel.

That turbine is way to small for a rotary. You're gonna be choking the car. HKS cast manifolds are shitty in my opinion. For the price they work decent, but there is much better stuff out there.

Yeah, it's more of a turbo that you would use on a four cylinder engine. You can get a T04E compressor side but you should get the T4 turbine rather than the T3.

As for the manifold, the HKS tubular unit looks very nice, but it's also really expensive. Ive seen pictures of the HKS cast manifold blocking part of the exhaust ports, and it doesn't look like it flows very well. If you are just looking for maybe up to 450 rwhp, it would be fine, but not the most efficient manifold.

Great pics, thanks Red 7. We'll I definitely dont need a 450 hp turbo set-up because this is going to be a street car. I drawback is I don't want to spend the kind of money for a kit and I think it would be a better experience to build a kit myself. I'm just looking for a turbo to produce a nice solid power band and easy spool for the street. All I really need is the manifold, wastegate, the turbo itself, intake, and custom downpipe. I have everything else. The reason I suggested the turbo I found at cheapturbo.com was because it went along with the rotary turbo sizing specs thread I found. Any suggestions are welcome...

Thanks,

Andrew

I found a Garrett T04B with S-trim compressor and T4 0.96AR with P-trim turbine. Would this be a better choice?

Take a look at this manifold, looks freakin sick but seems turbo would sit too high
I am looking into buying this one for my TO4s.

The S-trim compressor wheel is only good for about 285rwhp at ~10-12psi of boost. Your stock twins should be good for 330+, with far better spool to boot. Most people like to upgrade when they spend money to go with a single setup

If you're going to upgrade the turbo, the smallest i'd go with is a T04B with 60-1 compressor, P-trim turbine wheel, and .81 A/R or .84 A/R (divided) exhaust housing . Should net you about 340rwhp on stock ports at 15psi with full boost between 3500 (divided) and 4000 (undivided, .81 A/Rrpm ) rpm.

EDIT: Check out www.turbonetics.com --> "compressor maps" on the left hand side of the page. PM me if you need help reading them

So would this be a good DIY turbo kit for the street?...

Garrett T04B(T60, Ptrim, .86a/r)
HKS Cast Iron Manifold
HKS SS Racing 50mm Wastegate
Custom downpipe with V-band
Custom Intercooler piping
HKS SSQV Bov

Thanks,

Andrew

So I found a Garrett T04B with .60 A/R S-trim compressor and T4 .96 A/R P-trim turbine side. Would this be a good choice?

.84 a/r divided housing (not .86, they don't make one ), and you don't need 50mm of wastegate - the standard 40mm HKS wastegate will work fine, and is cheaper. Again, the S-Trim compressor is NOT BIG ENOUGH for a 13B... go with the 60-1

Where can I find a turbo like this? The first turbo in this thread I found on cheapturbos.com and the better one I found at turbocalculator.com. Where has everyone bought their turbos from?

Thanks,

Andrew
