I'm not trying to discourage people from buying a "usable" a/r... we all know there are too many t-78 lag machines driving around already haha j/k
I think that my 1.00 divided hot side is very streetable. I love this turbo. I can make full boost (1 bar) by around 3500-ish which I think is "just right" the way I drive.
I would be really interested to see your friend's dyno graph just to have more info to look at. Do you know what RPM he was at full boost?
Brian

I didnt hear much mention aboot the T04E... why is that?
I have one that im installing on an s4 tii engine and am wondering how its going to work... .70 compressor, 1.00 hotside and a p-trim.
Im wondering if anyone knows when this would spool up and have its peak power at?
Thanks
PS- sorry if im doin a lil highjackin, just saw the T04E on the poll list and thought id ask

Also remember that tuning plays a big role in how well they spool.
We've been discussing this whole A/R issue for some time. A lot of guy's are very happy with the 1.0's + A/R turbines but the smaller A/R's should spool a lot sooner provided it still will make the power you want. I've also heard that the smaller A/R's cause more thermal stress to the engine. I believe RiceRacing said it "makes them a detonation time bomb" Hope not!
I really liked my upgraded factory S5 turbo. It made more than my buddie's TO4s until nearly 6k. Problem was it only made 290rwhp. I wanted more.

Nobody said it was not legit, WE said WE would be interested in seeing it. I want to see what is possible with the smaller ar, that's all................. Everyone that shares information with the forum hopefully learns from the experience as well, Just curious, no flame. Carl

I'll see if he's got a copy scanned in, to put up.

"stock port"? You mean stock twins? That trap sounds a bit high, but who knows. Carl
My best run was 12.786@118 with a highflow cat, catback, boost controller and street tires. These cars are a handful even at BPU. Going single correctly will set you back +/-10,000. But you get +/- 700rwhp for that, and they are pretty hard to break. Once my 4 year old adjusted the AFC in my glovebox, and pulled 50% fuel at 4000rpm, the afc then extrapolated the fuel curve pulling easily 30% fuel by 7000rpm The car would hit 4000rpm, and stutter, or die. Figured out what the problem was, reset the ecu, and the AFC. No damage done, try that on a Rotary..........

isn't STUTTER OR DIE OUT = too much fuel

Hello guys, sorry I have been away for so long...
Now to the topic.
The turbo you pick depends IMHO on the way you have tuned/ported the motor. I am still running a T04E at 1 bar (14.2 psi) and producing 403 rwhp. The power is awesome and quite nicer than the T-78 equppied RX-7s I have rode in. Due to the porting though, I get some surge starting at around 2500 and cleans up nicely at around 3300-3500 rpm with loads of power with a feel of incredible power from 3800-4000 rpm all the way up to 8200 rpm redline. Therefore, for my motor, a larger turbo would be in order.
I think the best turbo for the street, depending on tune, would be a spectrum from the T04E, T04S, or T04R. I am not sure I understand the 60-1 and 62-1 and what they mean.
regards
Rick

wow how big is your hotside on the to4e? 60-1 and 60-2 are sizes of compressor wheels... isn't the t04r just a t04s with a 60-2... or so i thought... i don't want my car to be a race car, just a fast street car, i just don't know ifi should get a .84, i know spool would be really nice on it and i couild make some great power, but i could make a bit more with 1.0 hotside...
anyone know the A/R for the apexi single? that is pretty much the power output i am looking for anyway... nothing to insane,
thanks,
harrison

I might add, he just went 10.86 with his new single last night. This was banging the rev limiter a couple times on the run and a weak 60'. He's predicting 10.70's. Supra's are amazing, too bad they're fat pigs.

O'k ask Rynberg about "fat pigs" I regularly place in the top 5 overall at autocrosses up here in my 97TT(going single in July). I beat 4 FDs last autocross in my 3780lb FAT PIG! Of course my FC is more fun to drive that was with a blown front shock, and 1/2" of toe out on the right rear only Time for a little suspension work I guess).

The T04E I have installed is the stock turbo in the HKS single kit. I think it is something like a .84 or .96 - not sure.
Redline Engineering did the porting and quite a few special items were installed as well (lots of Racing Beat stuff).
The thing I was after was a fast street car and good track car that could also do autocross. I think I have come darn close to perfection except it does have some surging that the boost controller takes care of and horsepower I have to control in most cases. The good thing is the motor has horsepower in reserve.

I think we're WAY off topic.

with all of these turbo comparisons y'all should post:
manifold description
downpipe description
turbine housing a/r
turbine wheel
compresser husing a/r
compressor wheel
at the least...
otherwise you're just throwing around a bunch of numbers with a lot of other variables behind them
