I just went through this with the other end of the turbo, the turbine. GReddy USA does not sell replacement parts. Essentially you'll have to get the Mitsu part number and order it through a shop that rebuilds Mitsubishi turbos. Atlantic Turbo in Florida does this.
I had mine completely rebuilt by Majestic Turbo in Waco, TX. They actually "upgraded" the compressor to what they refer to as a Garrett GT series 79 compressor. The base diameter on this upgrade was about 89mm and they had to machine out the compressor housing as the inducer and base are MUCH bigger than a T78. They replaced all the bearings, seals, etc...and essentially what was returned to me was a brand new turbo.
I'm still tuning mine but she's pulling pretty strong. First gear is useless, the tires break loose in 2nd at about 5K rpm and the same in third now. And i still have more tuning to do! It's a bit laggy on a stock port engine but no less than a stock T78. It'll flow more cfm per pound of boost than a T78 and it's more efficient. I start making positive pressure at about 2.2K and significant boost at about 4K, 17psi by 5K, maybe earlier. This is in third gear. First revs so fast you don't have time to shift and second isn't much slower. I also have dialed in the boost controller so the turbo doesn't hit so hard. Right now I seem to go "vertical" with boost response once it comes into it's range. I have a feeling it's only beginning to do it's thing at 17psi and I'm sure it'll be much happier at 25.
Total cost for the rebuild with compressor upgrade was about $800.

I unfortuantely had to go through this also. I had a mis-hap where the snap ring popped out and the compressor housing came in contact with the wheel. Majestic was able to rebuild my turbo for $500 fixing the 78 wheel. For $100 more than it cost to have the wheel fixed they were able to put in the Garrett 79 wheel.
I sent off my turbo last monday and should have it back tuesday this week. They seem to be very helpful and honest over the phone. So far, I highly recommend them.

Michel,
I have a ported motor. I'll let you know how I feel about the 79 wheel although I unfortunately barely got to play with the greddy wheel (1 week). I'm hopeing to be back on the road tonight, but tomorrow may be more realistic. Especially since Tuesday night is usually bar night. (can't work too late when there is cold beer waiting)
I've only had the t78 on for a week and was playing on the wastegate spring (9.5-10psi) and stock injectors. While the turbo is off, I decided to install my 1600's, FPR, and build all my braided line. After tapping the primary rail I went ahead and installed my 850's. Might as well go all out while everthing is apart.
Next I need to order a pressure plate to go with the Racing beat sprung six puck sitting on the shelf. I also need to figure out what fuel pump I am going with. Currently I have a walbro 255, but are considering an aeromotive. A friend of mine says he has a hook up and can possibly get a weldon for about the same price as an aeromotive. I may go that route.
Cool part about all this is my car looks completely stock except for the N1 muffler. I've got an extra set of stock wheels and I want to widen two of them to 9.5. I need to research tire sizes. I don't really want to change the overall wheel/tire height. I'm thinking I'm going to need a spacer also. In addition, this may required me to use longer studs....
OK I'm rambling... heh... Guess I'm just excited to be getting back on the road.

Too bad you didn't have more time with the T78 (stock). I'm starting to really enjoy the car and I'm no different from any other T78 owner, I'd like more boost down low! I'm running the 255 Walbro (GSS-341) with the 550/1300 combo and I'm seeing high 70% duty cycles. I still have a bit of leaning out to do however :-) That damn bastard Jon still hasn't sent me a dime either, LOL. Just blew his motor too. I'll probably never see a dime. Anyhoo, we'll have to get together at one of the MRCCFL meets sometime soon just to check out each other's setups. Hey, no jokes here, ok? We're all adults. Well most of us. :-)
