Going Single, many questions..

Hello everyone

I am by no means a Newbie, BUT i am new
to this Single Turbo forum.

My car is currently in the proceess of this conversion.

So I got some questions..

Having a single turbo. Does the Car drive any differnt
than stock?? besides being alot faster?? Like lumpy
idle, low vacuums and etc?

Will a Nippon Desmo/Supra Fuel pump upgrade enough
to support a T78?? w/ 1600 secondaries with fuel
rail and fuel pressure regular??

Is there any tell tale way to know if the TURBO are
in good shape or not on the car??

Is a lil smoke during start up normal or is this bad??
Given the MOTOR is brand new reman? How about a
lil smoke during BOOST?? normal Or bad sign??

Is a apex PFC good enough to control BOOST with
a 3 bar map sensor??? Alot of talk about PFC not
being such a great Boost controller using Sequential
twins.. Does the Same go for using on a SINGLE ??
- hoping I do'nt have to buy YET another thing.

Not to beat a dead horse.. HOw much HP can our
Differentials can handle??

Is there a Significant differnce between the Greddy 2
or 3 row FMIC??

Factory Spark plug wires OK for a SINGLE?

many of you SINGLE guys use HKS Power pack?

I assume many of you guys using Synthetic OIL with
them big SINGLEs.

Thanks

Driving the car with a single will be different, but as long as everything is installed and done correctly there shouldn't be any idle problems etc.

Yes those should be sufficient fuel modifications to handle running under 20 PSI on a T78.

If you are talking about the stock turbos, as long as they are not blowing too much oil, are boosting just fine and your car is making the power it should be the turbos are just fine, but that doesn't mean that can't go in another 1,000 miles.

A little smoke during startup is just fine, however it shouldn't be billowing black smoke for more than a second or two, and it shouldn't be blowing any white smoke unless it is still blowing out condensation.

The Apex Power FC is a great ECU for the stock twins, it is also considered excellent for running single turbos under 16psi. Some people are happy running it over 16 psi with a 3 Bar map sensor, other people prefer running other ECU's.

The stock 3rd gen differential will be able to handle the power of a T78, it just won't be hold up too well with decent to hard launches with much past 350rwhp, and even before that much HP. Launching is very hard on the transmission and differential even with low HP.

If you plan on running boost higher than 15PSI it is generally recommended to run the Greddy 3 row over the 2 row, however if your just keeping a large turbo at the most you can run on pump gas and not racing it too often a 2 row will do just fine.

ErnieT made over 500rwhp and ran 10 seconds with the stock ignition system.

Some people like the HKS Twin Power ignition amp, some think it doesn't do anything. I think power can easily break up in the upper RPM's without an upgraded ignition system.

I don't have a big single but I am under the impression most people run regular motor oils.

id stick with the twins
with all of your questions you are going to run into a shitload of problems and the car will never run right if you even get to the point of trying to start it ever again.

not to be negative its just really really hard to do a single conversion right and it costs a ton

Yea i know first had it cost a TON.. Or shall I say
2 tons... haha

But my philosophy is: YOU LIVE ONCE. WHy the hell NOT?

Not only that I found myself a good SHOP out in VA.
Best prices on parts and labor. not only that I also
got Demetrios(local FD tuner guru) to fine tune
the Set up.

Thanks Icemaster.. yea I am gonna be running a 3bar
mapsensor to maybe 18-20psi at the track on Race gas.
But will be run at only 15psi on the street on pump gas.
will be using a Turbo X manual boost controler with
cockpit switch to regulate boost. SO PFC won't even
control boost at all.. Just the engine management and
ignition..
