Getting the most out of the S4 turbo? Advice please
I am toying with the idea of how to get the most out of a Series 4 turbo. I would love to get a garret T04, but unfortunately the budget just isn't there at the moment, what with having to buy the turbo, new exhaust manifold, external wastegate and the rest.
I would like to know if anyone has had any great success with trying to gain decent power out of the standard turbo. The idea that I have had is hi-flow the intake housing of the turbo, then mill out as much of the internal exhaust housing as possible to create a clear path similar to a garret, including removing the internal wastegate. Then plumbing an external wastegate to the existing exhaust manifold. Does this sound realistic? Has anyone tried anything like this or close to it? Are there any better suggestions perhaps?
What are peoples views on the use of plenum chambers? is their extra expensive worth the increase in power?
I would greatly appreciate anyones views on this

RXDOOM contact Jon at RX Engineering in Newcastle on 49661235
one of his customer cars is running a hi-flow with an external w/gate and it just ran a 11.01 at the Jamboree ,not a bad effort considering its in a Series 2 rx7 ,the car has a 10 in it for sure

Stock unit maxes out at around 250bhp.
"Hybrids" are popular where you replace the compressor housing and wheel - this will give you up to 350bhp.
Anything more than that, you're asking too much of the small turbine.

Yes i am refering to the intake manifold. But the use of a custom make plenum chamber, or log chamber they are sometimes called. Like the one on TOY12A, at this link http://www.hitman.hm/TOY12A-22.jpg
Are they worth it?
