FD coil pack upgrades??
I'm looking to upgrade my coil packs on my FD. What options are available out there? or what are you high powered rotaries using? Any help would be highly appreciated.

Love these coils. Have used them on a couple cars with good results. There a bit tricky to mount in an FD chassis with PS and AC but it's doable. The LS1/2 coils are also a good option depending on your power levels.

If you want a real upgrade.
Crane hi6 boxes X2 for the leading(one each) and 2Xlx92 coil packs to go with the boxes.
And wack in a set of trust r7420-10 plugs.

7 leading and 9 trailing usually runs cleaner and smoother. Especially noticed during cold and hot starts, engine starts very easily. Running 9's all around, there may be cases where it might be harder to start but will eventually start. Running 9's is safer for higher power applications or extreme use since the plug dissipates heat quicker. If your running near stock power I recommend the stock setup regardless of what others say.
I personally run Greddy Iridium Race plugs (rebadged NGK R7420's) with 9 leading and 10 trailing and seems to run pretty cleanly (I take a look at them occasionally to make sure they are ok). The reason I choose 10 trailing is because when I opened my motor it seemed like the area near the trailing plug hole was heat scored so I'm trying to get more heat out of there.

What you need to know.
I have used MSD.
M&W CDI.
RICE RACING was bashing on about the cranes along time ago.
First WI car i did, we used the crane setup on it. And have never used anything since.
Unreal ignition.
Just to give you an idea.
This is what the above setup has been able to burn through with 0 break up
1.4 litres of water per minute(water injection), 10:1 AFRS and 30psi of boost.

Has anyone actually run any different coils with the stock setup/twin power? I am running just leading plugs with the trailing coils and everything is great till about 20-21 psi on C-16, then it starts breaking up because I think it is just blowing the spark out. I was looking for a hotter coil alternative. I have heard of RX8 guys using MSD LS2 coils and have read on their forum that they actually had power increases simply by switching to these coils. I would like to know if anyone has used these.....

I haven't heard of anyone using anything except the TII coils and the stock coils with the twin power. I'm using the stock coils with twin power currently. I'm at 16 psi and 350 cc of water without issue. But I might be looking for some better coils as well because I plan to go over 20 psi and higher water flow, but I don't plan on spending $1000+ on ignition upgrades.
gilesr6 what plugs and turbo are you running? Keep us updated with what you go with and the results.

Actually this is not the case at all . Fact of the matter is, runnig "9's" all around is NOT safer and does NOT dissipate heat quicker. It is quite the oppisite bud.

9's are a colder plug then 7's so yes 9's all around would allow the plug to retain less heat that could potentially ignite the mixture prematurely. The problem is colder plugs tend to foul easier.

Do you have any info regarding what you're saying J? Saying that Mazda did it for a reason can't be the be-all end-all answer to this. Mazda also went with a 3-piece Apex seal.. Point being many things were done for emissions standards, long-term reliability or production costs, things which the average racer does not always have to account for.
