external fuel pump opinions needed...
ok so i want to keep this a street car so i dont want a very loud pump. not that the noise will bother me but i have a stock body and dont want anyone to know all the money is in the bay.
i was just reading an old modifiec mag at my friends house and saw a barry grant add. its for the mighty sumo pump. it states its suppose to be extremely quite yet i have not heard anything about it. it states that it requires no return line... does that mean i cant use a return line? anyone with any exprience with this pump?
the other option is using the aeromotive a1000 tried and true. yet the thing is pretty loud.
also does anyone know of any write ups on doing an external pump setup? i havent done one yet and honestly dont know if anything has to be modified and what has to be done. thanks guys let me know whats up

If you get an external pump its going to be loud no matter what. I have heard the BG and it is louder than the Aeromotive.
The install is pretty straight forward you need to add a relay for the fuel pump and sump the fuel tank, then run your lines and filters. Walla your done.

^ thanks for the input... its funny why they state that its "extremely quite". how was the pump mounted? did it have any rubber backing? as far as the sump goes are you stating adding somthing to go down in or adding a fitting to the bottom of the tank? what size relay is proper and where do i run the power to? would the fuse box in the engine bay be good? i cant remember if that is ignition activated or not. thanks again and hoping for more great information.

I've heard nothing but good things about a A1000 when rubber insulation is used when it is installed. I have one sitting waiting to go on my car, but no first hand experience yet.

^ how loud is it? is it very noticeable that your running a huge pump? im just trying to keep the car as sleeper as possible with the stock body 'in all. thanks again for the replys guys!!!

A1000's is what i would run If I had the money. They're very quiet inretrospect. I'd say they're half as loud as a Holley blue. It's going to make noise and you're going to hear it. It's going t be louder than stock, but it's not going to be like a holley and you're not going to be able to feel it. I currently run the MSD pump and it's just louder than the stock pump, but it's only good to about 400whp...

What I did was ran a -8 feed and -6 return in SS line. I bought the SS line @ summit racing (25ft roll). Also running a Y block and feeding each rail with -6 line.. The cost was higher but no fuel issues..

It is going to be louder but your open exhaust will drown out the fuel pump when you start moving. I ran -10 to the fuel rails and -8 return. It is over kill becouse the hole on the injector logs are were the fuel is bottle necked.

^ lol good i'll put it outside then haha. i'll just rubber mount it and hope for the best. im just wondering what size lines keith runs cause my whole system is upgraded with 1680's and 850s so might as well match the same lines up.
oh yeah and im going to be buying an aeromotive inline fuel filter what size micron screen should i get you think? i was thinking being a lil bit bigger since im going to be running some premix. yet i will be cleaning the screen each oil change. again guys thank you for the replys.

I'm running 2ea aeromotive filters... one 10 miron and a 100 micron filters. One before and one after the A1000 pump.. running -8 SS from tank to eng bay then to a splitter then changes to -6 SS to each rail. -6 from rails to aeromotive FPR then back to tank via -6 SS line.

My setup is similar but a little over the top.
Restored FB fuel tank with a FC pickup, walbro 255phh internal pump feeding an aluminum surge tank. -10an SS braided line to the Aeromotive fuel filter, A1000 pump, then barry grant -10an 12" fuel heat sink, then -10an to a Aeromotive Y splitter. 2 -8an feeds to the KG parts fuel rails, 720/1600cc injectors, Aeromotive a1000 injected bypass FPR, then -8an SS braided line back to the surge tank.
Total overkill, but hopefully no fuel starvation issues.

oh yeah and what do you guys think of the aeromotive 700 HP EFI fuel pump? its 5 bucks more and the only difference is the flow characteristics the a1000 goes for 1000 hp, flows 500lbs per hour, and requires 10 an fittings. the 700 HP EFI fuel pump flows for 150-800, flows 450lbs per hour, and uses 8 an inlet and 6 an outlet.
two possible stupid questions... these are both alcohol capable correct? and would using adapters do anything for fuel pressure or efficiency? going bigger to smaller or smaller to bigger? i always wondered this... thanks again!

I have the 100 micron prior to pump and the10micron after the pump prior to the eng bay. You don't need a filter on the return line..

When you switch from big to small fitting you are not limiting the presure of the pump, but you are ristricting flow. On either pump you choose the bottle neck is going to be the fuel rails so I wouldn't worry to much about it.

you sump your fuel tank. Jegs sells a sump and you place it at the lowest rear part of the tank. You do have to cut holes in the tank and either braze or epoxy on the sump and you start from there.
One tip when you install the return line on the tank dont use the bung next to the one used as the feed line. It couses fuel turbulence. I used a bulk head fitting in the front of the tank as a return.
