driving+overboost+chainsaw=blown?
I got my car running the past couple days and mapped it real rich, but my boost controller isnt working and its overboosting (up to 1.5 bar!) but its only short and I back it off (trying to tune it). Then I boosted it again and it seemed like it lost all power. Took it out later, hard to start, low vac, but it still boosts like crazy and makes power. Sounds way different now though I think its blown, but it still makes good power and spools the turbo the same.
Boosted 1.67Kg/cm2 max, on 91 gas, on s5 turbo, on a jspec, boost controller wasn't working right It handled that though, then I boosted later like 1.1kg/cm2 and it ran outta power. I drove it around alot real real before all of this all day rich (10/11-1) and I think its carboned out, sprayed some water down it at 3k in the yard and cleaned out the plugs, all kinds of black crud on plugs.
It ran way better and started up better after the water and plug cleaning. But I am kinda scared still

I had the same thing..... same set up boosted to around 14 psi with just a rewired walbro.
Now it idles lower, sounds different, has a bit less vacuum, and floods more when hot, but pulls just as hard over 2k rpm. Boosts the same as well.
I tried spraying carb cleaner into it while running and it didnt do much.
Still driving it 3 weeks later and its the same.

Yeah, that sounds like my condition, although people tell me it sounds the same, I think i am just too rich, and way to rich under in some boost areas. Water down the manifold helped alot.
One thing that does scare me is hard starting Not real hard (like its an apex seal)

If you do a compression check you will see if you collapsed a spring on an apex seal(you wont have compression equal on all 3 rotor faces). If its collapsed you would also have a richer condition with a lower idle because the fuel isnt being burned on that side. Might be able to salvage the motor because its likely the apex seal didnt come apart. Maybe imbedded itself in the rotor but possible it didnt destroy the housing. Needs to come apart if your compression test doesnt look good.

Have you done a compression check? Mine must be rich as well... but the vacuum did go down at idle from what it was before. It was never great but it was 15-16"" at 800rpm. Now its more like 12-14".

Seems you missed a basic lesson in testing for when your boost controller is questionable, or installing a new one.
Accelerate in 4th or 5th from 3000 RPM watching your boost level. Start at partial throttle. Later use full throttle. Do not use low gears or full throttle at the beginning. Why? RPM and boost increase is slower in the higher gears which allows you more time to back off.
Same for partial throttle.
Such a simple thing to do, but ignored, and causes many engine problems.

I was never informed of the basic lesson in testing my boost controller, and the manual being in japanese didn't help either.
And it seems like boost is quicker in the higher gears, i can pull 15psi with the wastegate connected directly to turbo, no boost controller, at 2500 rpms in 5th.
