Question Doubts on single turbos

I am upgrading my third generation RX7, and I have some doubts. I have a 13B remanufactured stage two streetporting 3mm apex seals engine bought from Atkins rotary engines. I am planning to change the twin turbo because it's been giving a lot of trouble with solenoids, vacum lines, etc. I want my car for street driving, but I want a lot of muscle as well. I read that when using some turbo kits (Greedy T78 for example) its necessary to use nitro for lower rpm. If I want my car for street use and a lot of muscle for amateur drag racing, Should I use anothe turbo kit?. A smaller one, for example, the Greedy TD06?. What about the products of XS Engeneering?

You may want to consider any of the XS kits with either a T04e or a To4s (running a smaller a/r on the rear with the To4s), or even the GT35/40 kit. If you want response like the stock turbos and 380rwhp is enough for you, then the Apexi kit is a good choice although it's just gone up in price and the turbo is essentially not rebuildable.

Many, many people have had great results with the XS kits and turbo parts are easy to come by and semi-affordable.

No don't use the TD06. Just go with the GT 35/40. With good tuning it will give you good horsepower and good response. Somebody posted a picture of there boost gauge at 17 at 3800 rpm with the gt 35/40 kit. Thats pretty quick response.

With a ported motor the T78 is perfectly good for street use. I was floored when I drove a T78 single with a ported motor ... fine low end with no concerns for daily driving.

The other considerations that I would suggest are: 1) water cooled, 2) air pump retention (if emmisions is a concern), 3) future horsepower goals, and 4) completness of the kit (if you are not into fabrication). Water cooled should provide better heat management for turbo bearings, reducing the need for long cool down. However, some may opt for fewer coolant failure paths (hoses/connections) and go without a water cooled center section. The others are self explanatory.

Simplify your twin set-up or go with a T78/GT turbo single.

I think the N2O on low end is overrated. You'll be happy with entry level drag racing on any single (even a big one) or twins.

The lag on a big turbo take some getting used to but it's not that bad. Just don't expect to stomp on it at 2000rpm and spin the tires or anything, get ready to snore instead. Once over 3500 rpm it gets a lot more exciting. It's well worth the simplification of your vacuum system and it looks awesome with the hood up, not to mention it sounds great spooling up. I have a T78 and have driven an RX7 with a T51 and I loved them both. Never driven something smaller like the Apexi so I couldn't compare.
