Differnet V band question. Compressor exit

Well, I've got a GT40 turbo here, with a V band type flange on the outlet. I'd much rather use a clamp specified for this, instead of squishing a hose on over it. I suppose I could machine it off and weld a small bead around the exit so a hose wouldn't slip off. I COULD get some adel-wiggins clamps, but who wants to spend 500$ on clamps to do the entire car?

Anyone know where I might find this clamp? Is this turbo origionally designed for a diesel truck, perhaps I could find a chageair pipe and liberate it from there?

NOT the turbine exhaust clamp, I'm talking about the COMPRESSOR exhaust clamp. Compressor discharge? Whatever it's called. The end that blows out the hot air headed for the intercooler/motor.

oops, for some reason i thought you were talking about downpipe side. same difference, just smaller....had one of those too...im sure you can find it online somewhere, if not go to a local diesel turbo repair place, im sure you'll have a great selection there

NAPA Auto parts, truck division. Take tuner shop prices, divide by four, and you are there. They have everything you need, and more. Ask for the exhaust parts catalog(about 150 pages), it has everything you need to do every pipe on the car, and never weld a thing. Special order stuff takes two days, truckers don'put up with the 3 week crap some tuner shops hand out

For example, mandrel bent 4" dia. 90* 6" radius bend with 8" legs ~20.00 V band clamps ~12.00, v bad adapter to weld to tubing for DP etc, 6.00. You get the idea.

Hey Carl, I'll check it out! Seems that stuff would be more geared to the exhuast side, but hopefully they have a clamp for the intake. Is that bend you quoted a price on in steel or aluminum? I'm looking for a 90 deg alloy bend, but I don't wanna cough up 75$ + shipping for one from burns stainless (In aluminum)

I think they just might, as the turbo that I'll be running is off a VERY common diesel truck and has a 2" v-band compressor outlet... I'll have to check them out too...

Thanks Carl

That is for aluminized steel. Why does it matter if it is exhaust or intake? Just take a Vband clamp of the correct size with their "V Band stub", and then run your silicone connector to the stub. I am using 4" nitrile wire reinforced duct hose to accomplish a 4" dia. bend in ~5". My intake filter will be mounted up high, and to the side in the space between my IC, and my oil coolers. Should lower my IAT alot. There are alot better places than Burns for everything those guys are $$$ . Search Mandrel bends, and make sure to check Ebay from time to time there are some steals. Stainless works is a good one, but there are dozen of others for 1/2 the price of burns. After JGTC, call me, and I'll get you some links.

I wanted aluminum because my IC pipes are made out of alloy. I don't see the advantage of getting a steel clamp, clamping it on, and then putting a hose on the end of that to my pipe. Would make more sense to just machine off that lip on the compressor, and weld a small bead to prevent the hose from blowing off, then hose connect that to the IC pipe.

At that point why weld a bead just weld a elbow.

same same. By welding a bead, I'm meaning put a small bit of weld around the tube so that the hose connection won't slip off. The tubing has a gradual bend to it, most of the cast elbows I've seen are pretty tight.

Just looking for a Alloy Vband for that turbo. I didn't make it to Napa today, but tomorrow or monday I'm heading over there!
