Which bw turbo for 400-450 on standard ports?
Been looking at borg warner turbos as i can get them through work on the cheap. Im aiming for between 400-450 bhp and it will be on standard ports and on a t4 manifold. I can live with abit of lag but dont want anything to crazy!!
Whats the best one to go for? any thoughts and reviews?

i've seen back to back comparison vs a precision turbo that was the same size and all it had on it was slightly faster spool, and it made less power and TQ at a higher boost level.. i'll take the turbo that makes more power and TQ with slightly less spool ( 100-300rpm) over a turbo that makes less power at a higher boost level.

Borg Warner doesnt make s362, I don't think. Options are s360 177272( I have this one). S363 and s366--These are ones on catalog from factory Borg Warner from turbodriven website. All other s362 and s372 plus other random sizes I'm assuming are modded by others companies.
For airwerkz I would suggest s363 or s366 for that 420whp goal on stock ports.

Built and pinned s5 turbo block with stock ports.
Fully divided short runner manifold. Made 282whp and 222 tq @ 7psi.
Shows 280 on sheet from heat soak on thw runs after. I made a thread on the 2nd Gen dyno and time slips section. Title of 282whp and 222tq. In a couple of months I'm going for 13 psi.
There is another member with same turbo and ported engine at 17 psi I think.(also in the 2nd Gen dyno and time slips section). His name is silver..... I forget silver something

He is comparing the famous video of the test on a supra. The video has been around for years. The results are night and day on a rotary. Even had a local FD owner test a precision 6262 against his new EFR 8374 on exact same dyno and tune. The result was around 100 more ftlbs tq around 3000rpms and the exact same overall HP. There is no comparison on a rotary. The exhaust flow makes all the difference vs the 2j.

You will enjoy the turbo- it sounds amazing also. It has that loud turbine sound like t51r's or larger BW s400s.
The 177272 was the cheapest one as it is also a replacement turbo for some john deer equipment which somehow allowed this particular online diesel store to give me a further discount. Its a nice cheap turbo. For the reliability,quality and reputation you cant beat this turbo for under 700$ =)

if you're talking about the same guy im thinking of, he ran the precision with a relatively small hotside for a rotary, and ran both of the turbos on low boost, the BW EFR may very well make better power at low boost than the precision equivalent, but what about when the boost is turned up? ( granted the precision has a properly sized hotside for a rotary!)

I think you are missing my point. A larger hotside would have only slowed response and lowered torque in low rpms. Its not about max power, finally we have a turbo that gives the rotary a respectable power band. We have the option of having torque now, which is a wonderful thing in any form of racing.
