BUTT DYNO impressions of a tuned T78 car...

Holy Moly! Talk about some huge HP up top. Man, don't get caught sleeping for boost build up on these cars. One time you get caught half-napping, then you stay awake remembering the car screaming while you inadverently hit 9000+rpm.

Going from 5700-9000rpm happens REAL fast in these cars.

I had been in couple of T78 cars recently. Stock port, mild port, and wild port (being tuned) now. Amazing how different these turbos spool, and where the power is up top. This car, before tuning. pulled a 'cycle (R1) from 70mph up (just like you Ernie, but I think only a car length or 2...not 5+!)

Keep the revs up and you have smiles for miles.

Michel, I think you'll be happy with your new baby when you get it.

More tuning and some dyno time coming for this wild-ported T78.

Badog,
How did the maps come out, was the T-78 running rich up top, or in the middle? Is there a way with the datalogit that you can get some of the fuel out at idle? I'm very rich at idle.

tony, just wanted to know what you thought of the spool comparison between the t78 and the gt35/40 (nocabs turbo). About at what rpm does both turbos spool?

Woo hoo! Can't wait! I have so many things I'd like to do to the kit before installation, I'm almost tempted to skip it all and get it in asap. I just added a 34-row oil cooler into the "to do" pile.

Sounds about right. What boost were you running on when you ran the R1. Also, I only ran a CBR 900RR. The R1 is a much faster bike, so 2 cars is about right.

Hey Baddog, I know your tuning with a DIY wb right.....have you compared it at all with any other wideband for accuracy and speed???

I think I'm going to get one but to get it pre build I could buy a fjo for a few hunderd more.....of course thats a few hundered that could go to a good egt gauge lol

Oh yea, I almost forgot....Are you using the DIY display??? I hear its pretty slow and when people datalog and look at the display the logs reveal a lot of movement that the display didnt. Kinda like the display either goes so fast you dont notice it or it just doesnt more fast enough to display every change.

I'm thinking the display is a waist....might be wrong though

Any comments on any of that???

Thanks man,
STEPHEN

Not that it wouldn't be nice for you, but consider this. How much money this guy has put out in R&D to get his setup right for him. How many motors it took or how many hours, fuel setups, timing maps, list goes on and on......Point being, its not very fair to the guys that put all the hard sweat, tears and most of all MONEY to just give it away.

Not my map to share. When I tune for someone, they end up owning the map. If they want to share it, they can. I charge the same as an XS or Ray does, but it's for that particular car. I really stand by the fact that no 2 cars are alike. The only way to share maps between them (safely) is to dummy down to the lowest / richest point. Pig rich.

You get someone with a "monster port" from vendor X and he ends up using the map from another guy, matter of fact he ends up using the map at a track, when told to use the map as a basis for tuning, not plug and run. He blows the engine then sues. It seems his port from vendor Y was different than then vendor Y's port job. Plus some other variables like different fuel pressure (yikes!)

I might post some maps that I know are "dummied down" like I did for someone recently.

I'm only talking about sharing the maps for reference.I know that you can't expect the maps to work on every motor.

I'm on my 7th motor so trust me I have put plenty of blood sweat and tears into this.

Just thought if people with actually tuned maps could share, it would be nice for comparing.

The display will stay in my car...I like it for quick reference...and for personal use. But I don't tune from it. Logs, rule!

I have been wanting to get a FJO for some side-by-side testing.

I'll be running the DIY unit in parallel for a dyno (with their own WB) event coming up. We'll see how that works out.

I hear that in about 30 days the DIY OZ folks (Peter G...very nice guy) will increase their feature set.

The Rx7Store should be working on a deal to carry the completed units in stock. You can thank me later

Apples and Oranges.

The GT35/40 gets up and goes much lower down in the RPM range. The T78 has a HUGE BANG up top that can make up the difference...but here is the secret: run a LARGE port with the T78 and run 17+psi of boost!

Ontop of that, the GT35/40 was on a stock ported engine (it DOES spool nice on even a stock port!)

If I was going to autocross, and do some track events I'd run either, but the GT35/40 would demand a much easier driving style.

If I was running 1/4 miles, again either is nice...but the T78 screams at 17psi from 6-9K. Put some fatties on the back. The GT35/40 is a pit bull from 40mph->120mph. IT snarls, barks, and goes! The T78 is more like a rabid pit bull from 80->140mph.

When Nocab gets his big port engine from Pineapple racing broken in, we'll run some side-by-sides of the 2 cars

You really can't wrong with either, but plan on spending the time to tune.

Thanks for the info man,

any idea when the DIY / RX7 store deal will go down???

That would be nice so people wouldnt have to wait so long. I'm guessing the price will go up though wont it, hopefully not much. I mean from the sound of it the DIY guys dont make a killing do they? I cant imagine them being able to give Jason much of a break then he's going to have to make some money as well.

It'll still be good though. Maybe I'll wait around till then, someone probably will have compared it to a FJO by then

I would like to thank Badog for tuning my car. We spent a total of an hour and were able to tune from 10-17lbs of boost with the wideband and the datalogit software. A/F's are in the 11.5 range across the board and the car just screams. We will see when we get it on the dyno in a couple of weeks.

If anyone needs some tuning come to columbus and let badog do his magic Well worth the money.

Well Jason I will be in Clumbus in early November to get my single installed and tuned. So as far as setting up a time to do all this, how soon in advance do you or Badog need to know? I am still debating GT35/40 or T04S but either way I will need my car tuned after install. How many miles are required on a new turbo before you start to tune it? 0, 300, 500, etc... I would also like to dyno my car as well but it is not necessary just desired since I live like 10 hours from there and it will be a long drive, especially twice. So Badog or Jason if you could let me know so I can try and get my plans in order for the trip to trailer my car down there and such.

I know badog has plenty of time on his hands
I would say it could probably be done anytime you want. Our install schedule is usually open and it would only take a day to install the turbo kit. There isnt a break in period on the turbo so its something we can tune the sameday or the next. We can also hook you up with a place to crash if you wanted to stay a day. I could also arrange some dyno time if you wanted to do that.

Yeah, I plan on heading up on a Suday and haing the Turbo kit installed on Monday and Tuesday. Then tune it on Tuesday night or something with a dyno session setup for Wednesday and then drive back home Wednesday night to go back to work on Thursday. I will have a friend go with me and we will probably cruise Columbus all day and night. So as soon as my Civic is sold I will be ready. Should be October/November or so. When does the weather start to suck out there?

I finally got my insurance comany to send me a check so I should have it here on Thursday and I need to order my FEED bumper and 99 lights as well as some sideskirts. Which ones do you have in stock? Which ones will look good with a FEED front with an RE AD 9 hood? I was thinking Mazdaspeed or Ab-Flug.

Not yet. We've only been hitting mid 16 psi on the stock sensors.

Next week, a batch of GM 3 bars will come in (hopefully) and we'll tune the some of the big singles for more boost.

I'll make arrangements to fit, as needed. Think hard about the GT35/40. Come out here and take a ride in Nocab's tuned GT35/40. Actually, you'd probably like either one....once I tune it.
